Whats the potential of the 2.4

Forgive me if this topic is posted elswhere. What power potential does our 2.4 TC motor have "all motor". I know being a toyota it can handle a good bit of stress, but what about good ole clean hp/tq? I have a respectable ride whith Just intake/header/exhaust, but need more!! :P I want to avoid the supercharging/turbocharging route (at least till the money comes thru)

Nobody really knows yet, there isnt any dyno sheets of parts that are out there.

-Ported Head
-High Compression Pistons etc.

Typhoon 03-23-2006 01:14 AM

well 200 whp thats for sure but thats with a head high comp pistons breather mods and a pulley

pacent 03-23-2006 04:42 AM

It will cost you a lot more to get to 200whp NA than to get 200whp with FI

couldnt have said it better myself. for the same money as 200whp n/a, you'd probably get more like 250whp with forced induction.

True but if you get stock compression pistons that are forged and get a p&p head with all the bolt ons then the turbo kit will make a lot more power. I think the stage 0 zpi kit makes 230 whp on a stock tc, but when you get exhaust, p&p head you should gain 20hp easy. It all depends on what you want. I am building mine for n/a now but I may turbo later on and so far the only wasted money is on the header and cai, I can use all the other mods with the turbo kit and yeild a higher gain then would on a stock tc.

i guess it just depends on what kind of fast you want. i presonally think its more fun to drive a 13 second n/a car than a 13 second boosted car. the engine is more raucous and it just seems like a more "violent" type of power. boosted motors are fun too though, and there nothing like a hard hitting bov to make everyone envious. i guess if it was my money i'd do the turbo, but n/a is a good idea too. just make sure you know exactly what u want b4 u drop any big bucks. i had a tiburon a few years ago and bought a turbo manifold, bov, wastegate and a few other things and ended up going n/a... bigggg mistake!

sorry, i just re-read the thread and realized i am getting way off topic. apologies to all moderators out there.

It will cost about 8 grand to get the tC to 250 WHP Naturally aspirated.

After doing so. Your car is not street legal either (at least not in california)

P&P + Valve work
Golden Eagle sleeved and bored block
Golden eagle NA cams
11:1 compression piston heads
Pully
I/H/E
Larger injectors
Computer + tuning
Flywheel
and the labor to get'er done.

decals and fart cans do wonders.

SouthernScion 03-24-2006 03:35 AM

Well the benefit of living in the south is that we dont have the strict emmision standards as Cali! (LOL, i mean we got half rusted no exhaust sporting camaroes runnin around here) I guess my main goal is to have the local honda boys wondering what silver blur just flew by. I can hold my own right now. A turbo/supercharger is going to happen later on, i just want to get noticed being NA. Keep up the suggestions guys!!

azepolyn 03-24-2006 03:43 AM

I find great joy in having a car faster than most of the daily honda boys before my upgrades, and catching up to the higher end guys peice by peice. When I was in high school, and even still today, nothing bugs me more than that vtec weed wacker noise

SouthernScion 03-24-2006 11:48 PM

LOL, i know what you mean. I used to be one of those Honda boys back in school. So has anyone found out what the 2.4 can handle stock? (with all internals and such) Is it built like the GM ECOTEC? (had one of those too!! lol)

wc01 03-25-2006 01:12 AM

dont you love people that respond and contribute nothing usefull kind of like this

SCIONrage 03-25-2006 03:47 PM

I've had just about every type of car out there. bored out z28, wrx sti, prelude, even had a Big Body 95 Impala SS.

one thing i've learned is that no matter how fast you are, there's always someone faster, so the best thing to do is to ask yourself where you will be comfortable. what will it take to make you happy?

to beat the honda boys?
to have bragging rights?
to just have a fast car?
to go ballz to the wall speed demon?

once you can answer that, then you'll know if u need to go blown or stroked...hell, maybe even BOTH :)

senseiturtle 03-26-2006 06:32 PM

The answer will always be... "depends on your pocketbook."

The big problem with the 2.4 is the FE head. Pick up any old 2AZ head from any somewhat-recent 4-cylinder camry (the 2.2L one is fine) and get someone to port it. Do a head swap, and this with your basic boltons should get you about 175+ whp in NA form.... and you'd probably be the first.

Also... I'd keep in mind your future goal at all times. I'm going N/A, but other than an intake (and possibly pulley),I want to be able to keep my current mods when I slap the S/C on it.

SouthernScion 03-27-2006 01:16 AM

Will that work? (taking the old camry head and port/polish) As for the "speed" question, id say a combo of all the above. Braging rights help!! But as mentioned before, there will always be a faster car. LOL

senseiturtle 03-27-2006 02:12 AM

According to a friend of mine who is a scion tech, yup.

06SuperWhite_SoCal_tC 03-27-2006 06:04 AM

Has anybody with a street tC done their internals, like extensive work i mean? if so what have their results thusfar been?

SouthernScion 03-27-2006 09:05 PM

Not to bring up the honda stuff again, but thats just like swapping the heads of different B-series motors! LOL All i would need to do that is find another 2az head and go to work?
