Im just curious when you replace your intake filter..I am aware they are washable and all..but I bought mine used from someone who had it in cai mode and I have ran in for a year now, and there is one small area the size of a pea that is worn. Im going to be taking it off next week to wash it, just wondering if I should replace it or not...(I always keep it sri)

 

To add some help to this...heres a link to a pic...when u click to enlarge it you can see where the wire is worn...and that is why im questioning replacing it..or if i can just clean it and leave it that way since it stays in sr 24/7...thanks..

i bought mine used too, and it was dark like yours...i tried to recharge and wash it but it still seemed dark..so i just bought a new filter. lol

 

washing and it cleaning it is enough, but if you have the money then go ahead and get another filter, it'll just turn dark again, that's how you know it's working!

 

hmm well ok, i will just wash it this time, just wanted more than my opinion to double check.

 

ya, but it seemed like the blackness wasnt going away and i wanted more fresh air for my engine

 

dip the filter in soap and water, rinse it, then let it dry completely.

 

I use to use a K&N filter in my old Mustang GT. there was always a thin layer of fine dust on the MAF screen. So I went back to good old fashion paper filters, I find that it filters better. I'll sacrifice the 2-3 HP for better filtration.

 

Im aware that its pretty much totally useless, to be honest its more a cosmetic under the hood preference of mine.

I have an injen filter recharge kit tho...i don't have anything better to do soo we'll see how that goes, im just happy I don't have to buy a replacement right now..

 

I say if the cotton mesh is still intact wash and use it. These types of filters dont suffer air flow while dirty like paper type. Paper has a chance to perforate too.

 

Idk I read that K&N filters once dirty, flow less than a paper filter equally as dirty... I do have a drop in though... lol

 

one more quick question....when im cleaning it, I don;t have to reset ecu or nothing since im just sliding a filter off right?

And yep, cotton mesh is intact, so now i feel good about not having to buy one.

 

take it out to clean and let it dry, then slide it back on and have fun.
