I was at a Wal-Mart earlier choosing between motor oils, I know one of my buddies would laughed at me when they seen that, lol. Anyways, I read the car manual and it didn't say to use Synthetic oils or not but to use ILSAC GF-4 or GF-5 Multigrade oil. Also, mentioned about using the same oil that's already in engine. Btw, I can't find motor oils that says "Multigrade", so that kinda stump me and also to mentioned I had a shop mechanic to changed the oil last. So, don't know if they used Synthetic but, do know they used Valvoline Max Life, according to the oil sticker in the window. Well, what's your advice, what kind of motor oil do you like to use and why? just wondering.....thx

to make it short use full synthetic unless you dont give a ____ about your car
walmart is where i get my oil, its way cheaper then anywhere else

also be advised that not all oil filters are made the same, napa gold filters are one of the best on the market

 

Thanks for the feedback... Well, that was the first pick I was going for, Full Synthetic but, ending up on buying Synthetic Blend instead. My car was getting low on oil but, next oil change, will buy full synthetic though.

I'll keep Napa gold filters in mind, unfortunately haven't done oil changes physically to know which oil types/filters to use, due to lack of space and tools. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it

 

To go into a little more detail for you and anyone else thats too lazy to look into it, synthetic oil maintains its weight more consistently in extreme temperatures.
5w-30 conventional oil will pretty much be solid at below 0* while 5w-30 synthetic will still be a fluid. At high temps conventional oil breaks down and gets sheer while synthetic will do a better job maintaining viscosity

5w-30 penzoil platinum, or castroil edge, or mobil 1 (but its not worth the extra $)
I still change my oil every 5k miles even though the Tc is a 2 door carolla with a bullet proof engine since I'm insane

 

Only thing I can recommend is be cautious of polishing agents in certain brands of synthetic oil.

 

I dont use high end oil. Just gets changed often and dont do a lot of demanding driving

 

Well as I stated previously I don't like certain additives in my oil. That being said I think you cant go wrong with Motul 8100 (Full Synthetic).

 

I have used Valvoline Full synth since 5k miles.... I change it every 5k miles and I am at 168k now. Car runs like new, I have little to no loss between oil changes, and get the same mileage I used to get from day one.

Toyota wants you to use real motor oil. I used synthetic Mobil 1 on my 2009 Scion xB, this time around my xB 2010, my mechanic put in Mobil 1, Dealer recommended real oil. I continued and when I found out about my potential problem that hasn't been proved yet, in the process.
I was told 10-30 synthetic by Toyota service agent, seems to be slower, but still happening..awaiting what I am going to do. Looking for a genius mechanic with perfect mental sense of solving my consumption problem with less than thousands of dollars of remedy because I am out of warranty.
