Default AEM EMS stuff

As many of you know, AEM has released their V2 EMS, which incorporates some good changes to their already rocking platform of engine management. Some of the new features are improved software using AEM Tuner. It appears to be much less cryptic and more user friendly overall making it easier to get an excellent tune setup on.

The other new cool feature is the use of USB! (YAY! Welcome to 90's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Anyway, no more Serial to USB adapters anymore. You can simply plug right in with USB and go! Unless you love your serial port, which you can still use, because AEM V2 EMSs now have both serial and USB ports. So anyway you want to connect, it's game!

Below is a link comparing to the new V2 EMS to the V1 EMS. You will see that now has CAN control as well on certain apps, more internal logging RAM and a few other trick things. Take a look:

http://aempower.com/files/EMS_vs_Series2.htm

SERIES 2 KEY FEATURES
  • Plugs directly into the factory harness. No rewiring necessary.
  • Uses all the factory sensors.
  • Includes start up calibrations.
  • System is fully enabled and unlocked - Never pay for upgrades!
  • Context sensitive help eases tuning process.
  • Maps can be password protected by the tuner to prevent unauthorized usage or sharing.
  • Runs on Windows-compatible software.
  • 12 peak and hold injector drivers (Supra only).
  • 8 direct-fire coil outputs.
  • 16 general-purpose outputs.
  • 8 definable switch inputs.
  • 4 EGT inputs with fuel control.
  • 1MB of internal data logging.
  • Electronic boost control.
  • Full idle control.
  • Programmable traction control.
  • Software definable knock control.
  • Two step launch control.
  • User configurable soft-cut rev limiters.
  • Wet or dry nitrous control.
  • Tune using new USB communication port or serial port.
  • Works with all AEM gauges.

Lastly, the new boxes are very different and R&D must be redone again for the box to be re-released. So, we are starting today with a fresh new box and will have another AEM EMS ready very soon. We will keep the forum posted as significant progress is made.

O I have one quick question about this... Is it gonna be possible to upgrade to this box if someone orders one of your current kits with the AEM EMS? I have a buddy who I believe ordered a kit from you guys within the last week with an AEM EMS, and seeing this, I was just wondering if he would e able to upgrade after he gets his stuff. :D Good stuff Btw :D

I do not know if it will be able to be used as an upgrade just yet since there may be wiring changes etc......

Unless you get a standalone trans controller, I do not think will be all that possible. All though, I did have one customer put our older AEM EMS on his auto and it worked well, but I do not know what he rev'd it to.

Stock ECU will still control trans unless you get a standalone trans controller.

The fuel and ignition control will be controlled 100% through the AEM EMS

Really. System readiness things need a certain amount of drive time or active time to be set for an OBD2 plug-in. This usually requires 25-50 miles of driving.

With our race box, you are correct for the most part.

However Mike, even if it did see those signals like on our street box, it would still throw codes because so many other functions are stripped away from it like the MAF etc.

Very correct!

Im not saying it would pass emissions at that point! I was just saying how much the oem ecu doesnt know whats going on!

But the oem ecu does see MAF signal..

I was just playing with my harnes

Things it doesnt see,

RPMS
Crank
Cam
Injectors
Igntion coils
Knock Sensor
Air Intake temp portion of the MAF

Im sure there is more or less.. But give people an idea! No way is this ecu passing a obd2 test

that's why i asked, paul. i know you're releasing one that does so i'm asking if this one does too.

and considering it sits inline and uses stock sensors i figure there might have been a chance.

I know that man. Just keeping the facts 100% straight. All though, I did make some head room on that forefront........
