Hydra Gurus Needed
 

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my car thats running a hydra. While tuning yesterday, the car ran fine. Once the car rolled off the dyno and into the street it decided not to want to start without me giving it some gas. Then came the idle issues. The unit wouldn't allow the tuner to lower the idle to anything under 1100 so we kept the 1100. Unfortunately the car kept dying once I got off the gas. While driving on the highway the car ran like a dream but one I hit the city, the idle issues came back and shut the car off (didn't do it right away). This morning it gave me about 10 min of normal driving with a 1100 idle in the city before the car decided to lean out really bad and start raising and dropping rpm consistently before i shut the car off. What could this possibly be? Help!

is your motor built? what is your setup? what Hydra version?

I had the same issue then I threw back my unichip piggy-back and it runs like stock. the ____ty thing about it is the tuner is supposed to be a certified tuner for the Hydra WTF.

hydra 2.7, custom turbo setup, intake manifold, stock motor and it was tuned by Rob at automaster amr in ny...i spoke to Andy from Hydra and he said he thinks its a harness issue so I'm going to check the schematic that he sent me against my harness...unfortunately I had to go back to my FIC for the time being and that idles with no problem but has a heavy hesitation/sputter when hitting boost...

Are you using an IAC valve? How are you controlling idle? I had similar issues when I was first tuning my EMS. Logging it while it stalled, then correcting fuel at those points and playing with the IAC feedback lined everything out.

i am not using an iac valve as we do not have one from factory for our cars...just sent out my hydra and harness back to Hydra so they can take a look and see if there is an issue with the unit. I also remember that i do need to change out my plugs because i was driving rich on them for a while...do you think that might of contributed to my issue?

could be...yeah change to new spark plugs. did that schematics whatever match up with yours? let us know what the status when you get that hydra back. the certified dude that tuned my hydra had installed idle control valve to fix the dying out issue...but it didnt help with the high idle...it still idled about 1100-1200rpm (like yours do).

the schematic did match up but I sent it in anyway just to be sure...so did installing the idle control valve fix your issue of the car dying out? I'm just trying to pick my brain to see what it could be. On the FIC the car has a vacuum pressure of 24 but when I plug the hydra in its about 16-18. Then again this could also be because I haven't driven on the hydra long enough for the stock ecu to relearn everything...I'm going to try to get a smoke machine to make sure that I don't have a vacuum leak anywhere...but as of now I'm stumped

yeah it did fix the issue of the car from dying out but still idled 1100+ RPM. yeah breaks my heart to see all that money spent and tuned by a certified hydra tuner for a sh!tty result.

hmmm interesting...i just had a smoke test done on the car and there are no vacuum leaks...also the hydra ecu is fully functional...just waiting now on the harness to see if that could possibly be the issue

sounds like the tuner needs to take another look. Sounds like fuel is being dumped in. Whats the A/F readings on decel and at "Idle"?

ok supposedly andy from hydra said that the dwell setting on the hydra was too low so he fixed that for me and he said that the wire I have coming from pin 30 had to be routed to battery power. I'm planning on doing all this plus throwing in new fresh plugs tomorrow to see if that would work and take care of the idle issue...i will repost tomorrow with my a/f readings at decel and idle

Dwell setting being low could very much cause this issue. I have no idea what the wiring diagram for the Hydra is, so i have no idea what pin 30 is, but if he says connect it to Source Voltage, then I would do it haha.

I am also curious on AF readings if he Tuned the car like that.

ok so after trying the hydra with the new setting and wire ran today my idle was bouncing around 500-700 (getting closer) ...car would still stall when coming to a stop and idle would not stay steady...AF readings for idle and decel are super lean going past 17.0 on my wideband gauge

was that pin 30 changes made on the harness? can you take a picture of it? i think we did the same and it didnt work on mine. im ready to throw this hydra back at their face and demand full refund.

pin 30 was actually going to the relay and if you take the relay apart it says 30
