Limp Mode - Removed Side Airbags - Did it cause Limp Mode?
I recently removed my side airbags for 4 reasons:
1. Was in the way of my C-Pillar strut 2. Weight Reduction lol 3. Just plain gutting the car 4. Im just crazy like that! I expected it to throw a CEL which it did. But now my car seems to run in limp mode or something....It bogs down real hard and runs like $hit....It doesnt make sense to me that removing an airbag would cause it to go into limp mode. Any thoughts? PS- I posted this in the Foced Induction section because it is turboed and the most knowledegbl people obv look in the forced induction thread. Thanks in advance! |
Airbags system is completely different than the powertain ECU. They have nothing to do with one another the only reasonable explanation is you may have damaged another wire leading to a sensor or something and/or it may have already been there just happen to trip. Have the code read and find out what it is.

id do some research.
last time i checked removing airbags was a federal offense. not to mention, if you get into an accident, insurance is gonna give you a real hard time about the car and especially about any medical bills. |
yea it prob is - but if hes like the rest of us i bet he has ALOT of other things done to the car that are illegal. Technically i believe tampering with emissions (removing cats) are also a federal offense - so yea :P As for insurance - dont know much about that - but ive also heard of insurance companies refusing to cover due to performance parts on a car - obviously something extreme - not like i/h/e or anything like that

Oh yea back to thing 1 lol - no - airbag would not cause limp mode :) Its gotta be something else - try resetting ecu - removing airbag will cause srs to light not a cel - ive dirven with my steering wheel airbag d/c lol
