Main Gasket
I had my motor built at a local shop.. And upon picking it up they used a red silicone for the main gasket on the block.. Is this how TY does it? Or is there suppose to be a oem gasket there?
I think he means the silicone sealant that toyota uses on the timing chain cover, oil pan, upper oil pan and such.
Ive used red RTV silicone on my oil pan and it seals up nice. I would think as long as it can take the heat it will be ok.

i dont' think a machine shop would be dumb enough to use rtv for a head gasket
What im reffering to is, when they pulled apart the bottom part of the block.. to remove the crank! i can take pics once i get home.. They used rtv red silicone. And also for the water pump...
Is that a picture of the block upside down, not sure. The gasket you are refering to looks like the intake plenium gasket but still not 100% since picture isn't the best. I thought the intake plenium used o-ring as well.
No he's talking about where the Upper oil pan and Cyl block meet. The pic is of the intake side of the motor.
Sealant goes there as well as the timing chain cover, waterpump, and oil pan. Everything else uses O-rings
