Oil spotting in Coolant Reservoir
 

Now, I haven't really dogged my car all that much. You can ask Crush. I'm running the Turbonetics kit (water/oil cooled). I've had cars overheat and warp the head. Oil pressure dropped and water temps shot through the roof. My oil pressure is the same, and because of the Texas heat, I've been having trouble keeping the water temp below 200F and I finally got it... as long as the ambient temp stays below 95F which sucks.

Yesterday I went to IFO, which is about 50 minutes from my house. This morning, I swapped out my coolant reservoir line from the radiator and noticed some small dark spots in the coolant reservoir... WTF? Oh ____! :nails: Perhaps my engine swap will come sooner than later.

I have to say though, after talking with Crush and my buddy Wookie, I think it might be the turbo. Which means I'll have to go to Turbochargers.com and get a replacement turbo (as I am still under warranty). Turbo has a hair under 8,000 miles on it. Motor has 60k miles on it.

Any thoughts or questions? I'll be back in about 9 hours.

got pics of it.. maybe just the turbo? im kinda lost though when you said your oil pressure dropped and when you said oil pressure is the same lol

sounds like oil seeping past the internal gasket into the coolant side. Turbonetics are known for bad seals and seisures

Ace, I meant that when I had engines in the past overheated, headwarped, oil pressure dropped. Oil pressure on the tC is the same.

Picture your coolant reservoir, and little droplets of oil... very small, but lots of them.

I kind of expected more response than this.

unbolt the charge pipe on the hot side under the turbo and see if you see any signs of oil spray. If there's an internal leak, chances are you'll see some blow out inside the pipe.

Eh, too late for that. I'm bringing the car to Turbochargers.com in the morning. If I wake up early enough I'll take it apart and check for the oil.

Just got back from Turbochargers.com, talking with Jim. From what it looks like, he is speculating that I used a dirty funnel to pour in the coolant with... doesn't look like churned up oil (the milky stuff). So he recommends that I flush the reservoir twice (after driving) and/or drain the whole system to see if it comes back. If it keeps coming back, then perhaps there is something else happening.
