Just like many of us s/c owners I shoot oil back to the intake tubing causing me not to hit 9.5psi... So I searched and the solution that people came up with was to install an oil catch can. So I did; but I continue to get oil in there and only getting around 8.3 psi... Here is the pictures; hopefully someone can tell me what I did wrong

What temperature is it where you live? If its above 45 degrees im not seeing about 9 pounds. Below 35 though I can hit about 10.35

 

It was 30 degrees here in Fl the other day; I don't think that is the problem. I wonder why do i still get oil in the intake if i have a catch can. Did i cap the wrong hoses? Did i run the wrong hoses into the catch can?

 

The can probably has to be vertically mounted....

What belt and BPV are you running? Also what kind of boost gauge?

How do you know it was 8.3 pounds then? Were you bouncing the redline? Your a manual right?

 

I am manual.... on 3rd gear on the high way i have enough time to look at the gauge.... Also my brother looked at it while i focused on the road... My main concern is the oil that I keep finding in the tubing of the intake. Can you tell if i have the correct hoses hooked to the catch can or cap?

my autometer mechanical boost gauge on my boosted rsx is not entirely accurate. Datalogs show 15psi, but gauge shows 18psi.

Dont trust autometer gauges with your life.

Your getting blow back from something. I dont know why your getting oil there, I assume a little bit isnt a bad thing. Is it making your car run odd? If its not dont worry about it.

 

Really? I was about to get the Phantom II mechanical boost gauge... Not worth it then huh?

 

I'd say the return line to the intake pipe, just block that off... the only way you should/would be getting oil in the intake tube is if it's coming through that line. Try doing that and if it keeps going post up again with an update.

You could just block that off too I'd guess.

 

What catch can did you get? Do you find anything actually being caught in the can, or is it simply passing thru?

Note that 90% of cans are simply that...cans. They can't catch anything without a change in temperature so gas has a chance to solidify. Your best chance is to stuff them with brillo (that adds surface area for particles to cling)..and to move it as far away from the engine as possible..remember, you need to change the temp to give it a fighting chance. Otherwise it simply remains in gaseous form until it hits the intake (much cooler). The longer the travel (hose length) agives it more time to reduce temp.

I got a chambered catch can and mounted it forward in the engine bay.

What brand of catch can is it ? most of the ebay knock off brands leak boost right off the bat. Also where do you have your gauge t'd off from is it closest to the throttle body or is the forge closest to the throttle body ? I had my bosch t'd closest to the throttle body and then the boost gauge and as only getting like 7-8 psi with a 9.5 pulley. so I switched them and got my 9.5 on the gauge.
