Supercharger Drone at Idle

I brought my car to toyota to get the oil changed and when I got it back I noticed there was a small pool of oil about the size of a dinner plate under my car, so I asked the service manager WTF is up and he said hold on Ill drive it rite to the back (mind you my car is still leaking oil everywhere) and he gets it up on a rack and says your supercharger return line has come off the blower and you have a really bad leak at the tap. Now im concerned because the whole underside of my car, my wheel and my transmission are now covered with oil which wasnt there before and furthermore now my supercharger makes this low pitched drone sound at idle and it shakes a whole lot more now than it did previous to me bringing it in to Toyota. Does anyone have any idea what they could have messed up in driving my car around (for waht ever reason) after the oil change with out that return line that would be supercharger related?

It'll be covered on them... No worries, Just let them fix it. I don't see what could have happened though.

I installed it myself and it was used, but it never had any issues.

Oh... Hmm that's a tuffy. The sound you're hearing, is it after the line was broken? Or do you mean the line was fixed and it still makes the noise?

I'm thinking the line is broken and when you heard it the extra noise was because that line is broken. It may also be your oil level is low and the squiter isnt getting any oil to the s/c gears, thus creating the extra noise.

Its all fixed now and full of oil but it still makes that noise, its starting to lessen but the noise is definetly still there.

regardless of whether or not you have a warrenty on the s/c, if they knocked off that line durring the oil change and they drove it afterwards, (i know many techs that roadtest every car after they work on them) they are at fault. did you bring it up to them that its now making this noise? if not go back down there

Good point. If it was caused by them then it's their responsiblity. You'd have to prove that though.

it wouldn't by chance happen to be a slight knocking sound would it? If it's just a lower drone...then the idle might have been dropped a little...what does it idle at once warmed up?

Sound clip and we can answer your question.

It idles rite at 700 rpm. Come to think of it the bearings had started getting really noisey when it would first get started up then the noise would subside when it was at operating temperature. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

06SuperWhite_SoCal_tC 08-30-2007 01:28 AM

Just as a normal Habit, I always let my car warm up before I drive it. As things heat up they expand/change size... I let my car reach normal operating temps before I even put it into gear.

kikcaffine 08-30-2007 02:33 AM

Could the drone be the superchargers way of saying F_YOU for running it dry for an unknown amount of time? Or is it a normal noise that it makes when its full of oil? The only reason I went and got my oil changed was I had checked it at the gas station when I was filling up and it didnt register on my little dipstick(but it did last time I checked it about 3 days prior but it was hella low), so I bought a quart and dumped that in and it didnt register that either so I said hurm I must be low on oil better go get it done correctly so I did and thats when all the noises started happening.
