SUPERCHARGER MPG *UPDATE*
 

Ok guys, I am the first one to empty a tank of 93 on the supercharger. I will say that MPG has suffered a bit, but keep in mind this is the first week I had it, so I was driving the crap out of it. Did alot of high rpm driving, so that had a big impact. I got 237 miles out of a full tank. I usually get around 290 (300 at the most). 237 miles/13.5 gallons = 17.55 mpg. I know this seems horrible, but like I said, I drove the crap out of it this week. Who wouldn't? Can you blame me? :P So i just filled up last night. I will see how many miles I can get if I drive normally. I will post results ASAP.

i figure same as u...first get it=drive like a maniac cause its new. Im a pretty conservative driver in terms of general driving...but would like to know i have the extra power if I need it...or want to take it to the track....if it takes the mpg that low, I wouldnt probably want it, thats the mileage my friends land rover gets lol. But thats pretty good considering I'm sure you have been stepping on it a lot more than normal...anxious to see typical driving results!

That and the ECU is still learning. Remeber when you first got your car, the mileage was crappy and as you drove it the mileage got better? The same is most likely true here, a couple more tank fulls and the mileage will level out.

Just to make you all feel better, my first tank with my turbo was less than 100 miles :P

Most tanks since have been between 150 miles and 230 with the most being 340 but that was all highway and no boost at all for the whole time.

I'm going to lean out my maps and get some more power out of this pup and that should also up the mileage if that makes any sense?!?!?!

Did you actually fill up the tank with 14.5 gallons? That would mean you literally pulled up to the tank running on fumes. How much gas did you put in the tank during your fill up?

Oh yeah, good point. How many gallons did it take to fill you up? This could change your results drastically.

Say you only actually used 12.5gal.:

237mi/12.5gal = 18.9/19 mpg

...and if that is spirited city driving, that's actually not bad.

Ok Ok...my mistake. I filled up to about 13.5 gallons. So take 237 and divide that by about 13.5 and thats the mpg I got for the first tank

I did the math...17.6 MPG Not too shabby.

The ECU is still learning. If you stay out of boost ( I know, its impossible) you can actually increase MPG. I will try to stay out of boost as much as I can for this tank. It'll be hard, but I want to give you guys good info. I will post my findings when the tank runs out

WHY?!?!?! Screw us...go have fun with your car....youll get used to it in a month and then post actual #s. Why would you buy a supercharger if you are worried about mileage? We used to have a '71 El Camino SS with a built 454 and people would ask us about mileage. We'd be like WTF who cares...thats not what its for. I know a tC is different, but the cost of the SC alone is worth about 2 years of gas by itself.

I'm not worried about mileage. I just wanted to post some useful information for everyone. Just an experiment.

thanks for the info, my boy is getting his SC tC today...i have been relaying ALL of you guys info from day one to him, he LITERALLY bought the SC the tC , THEN test drove the stock tC haha....based SOLELY On you guys feedback and stuff....just a thinks from him and me for the info...i own an xB so posting int he tC forums was weird for me...lol

i would probably drive the hell out of it if I were in your position and get worse MPG.

well thats kind of good news. 16-17mpg thrashing it all the time isnt so bad. i was hoping for 19-20 but :o

When I picked up the car from the dealer Tuesday night I had a bit over a 1/4 tank left. After about 30-40 miles I had the gas light on. Filled up till the first click-off, drove another 40 miles or so - the gas arrow did not move yet. Will keep everybody posted as weel.

With my SC'd Matrix I lost 2 mpg max on my normal driving tanks.

But you know - when you get FI you are not really looking for fuel economy, are you?

You can have power and fuel economy too. The best thing about forced induction is that you can drive off boost and get really good mileage. I'm running 8 psi and I get an average of 27 MPG on 93 octane, but at the track when I am running at WOT for 30 minutes at a time, I get 7 MPG.

Oh, and the other thing that is great about FI... more boost. :P

I consistently get 27+ MPG with my tC.....345+ MPG on average with 87 gas for 32,000 miles so far. You miust be foot heavy! :) Cold be atmosphere and temperature difference.

edit: sorry, I meant 345+ miles per tank!!! good catch.
