ticking sound
 

Started yesterday, the day before she was running awesome and quiet other than the new toilet tank sound from the new fuel regulator I got installed.
Yesterday I decided to cut the grass and pulled the car out of the garage by just pushing it out, but somehow left the car with the ignition in the on position for the whole two hours I was doing yard work. Battery died and had to jump it with the wifes tC, then immediately after start up it got the ticking sound like a diesel engine.

The sounds is only there during idle and acceleration, when decelerating it completely disappears. If I pop the hood to take a look I can't hear anything, it's more obvious when I'm in the cabin. Is there anything that could get fried from being on for two hours? VSV, injectors, etc. Just plain weird, thanks in advance.

does the speed of the ticking increase with the speed of the engine?

try replacing the battery with your wifes battery. i think that the relay will start ticking when the battery has a low charge. if that fixes the sound the just grab a new battery.

also check the main relay fuse.

yes it does brett, I'll try swapping batteries and if that doesn't do it I'll try her relay. I drove 40 miles to work this morning and it still had it, I'll try that stuff tomorrow once I get home. Thanks bro!

updates?

not really an update, I didn't have the time to work on her today. One thing I did was to try to pinpoint the location of the sound and it seems it's only audible from the cabin. The new fuel line feeding the fpr was resting against the firewall, maybe that could be the culprit. I grabbed a tool and rest it against the line and it seems to have a really strong pulsation. Wondering if it's just the injectors causing it and the line is just transferring the noise thru the firewall.

I'm gonna try isolating it tomorrow and listen for any changes. It's possible that the plastic dampener before the fuel rail did serve a function after all. FYI I have the pressure set at 58psi (base) on 700cc Deatschwerks.

battery and relay good to go and still has the wore out head sound. Which relay is the one that you refer to? IGN?

I kinda ruled it out as the injectors after all Chris, whenever I initially descelerate and the injectors close/turn off it goes away. Maybe if I was able to drop at least 20psi of fuel pressure, it might go away. Come to think of it when I initially installed the setup I had it set at 45-50, I don't remember hearing any ticking that night.

I thought we wher able to quit it down some with shimming the fpr with those foam pieces?
