Default Transmission Fluid Temp probe -before or after the Cooler?

I've been looking at the pros and cons of the location of the temp probe for my transmission fluid. Do I install it before my cooler to measure actual trasmission oil temp or just before the oil goes back to the tranny to verify the cooler is actually getting the job done?

I'm going to use a 1/8 npt "tee" that will allow the sender to go in the middle and use barb fitings at the ends to located the sensor anywhere between the cooler lines.

I would think that you would put it before the cooler to see the high point in temps. I vote before.

Set up two of them one before and one after.

But seriously I would say have one before the cooler. =)

Okay, I think fuid temp before the cooler makes more sense cause it tells you what temp the fluid in the tranny is actually at, which is what you are trying to control with the cooler. If temps shoot close to 300F then you know the cooler is not getting the job done.

On the (2) fluid ports on the tranny which one is supply and return? I think the one on top is supply and the lower one is return- which goes back to the pan. Is this correct?

What type of temps are you seeing while perforiming "spirited" driving and on just cruising on the highway?

I believe the top port should also be the output and the lower port would be the inlet. The only way I would know is because how the factory setup the hard lines that went into the radiator for cooling. I also have an engine oil cooler and with all the coolers in place, I can tell the motor is happy.

I don't know what my temps are because I don't have a gauge on the tranny but one thing I can tell you for sure is that when I changed my tranny oil to Amsoil that made a big difference as well with my tranny cooler. The shifts are smoother consistently. But the tranny still doesn't like it boosting too much either. The shifting gets sloppy but then after little driving it will smooth out again like normal.
