I know it won't happen to the tC, but what if TRD makes a 6-SPD MT option with the dual mass flywheel (what's the advantage with dual mass?) and LSD?

(It's just dream, but what if they did? Would we see faster 0-60s, better fuel eco and better handling/traction?

Well, considering you need to shift one extra time in a 6spd, I dont see an overall gain in acceleration.

But the real answer is.... this has all been discussed eleventy billion times on ever scion forum ever made.

What if, the 6th gear is just an overdrive and everything else is the same?

Also, I thought the the limited slip diff can lessen wheel spin and maintain traction? (and forget the dual mass flywheel, it's no use.)

Well, search for yourself. There is an "I wish the tC had a 6 spd" thread about every other week. If 6th were an overdrive and the rest were the same.. you would have two overdrive gears. 5th is already an overdrive. The only way to get more acceleration is to make the gears even shorter, then you would have another billion "this car gets bad mileage, I wish it had taller gears" threads. No one is ever happy.

To properly put what you are asking for, you would want to shorten 4th and 5th and add 6th as the overdrive gear.. which again would just make you have to shift more often. More gears is not the answer most times to acceleration. Anything you gain is lost with extra shifts. More gears is advantageous in road racing, where you need more rev matching and are driving at multiple speeds back and forth.

And the tC already has the option of an lsd, so that is not a dream.

You wouldnt want that very long if it were your daily driver. IT would make more noise than the exhaust There is a big tradeoff of track performance and daily driver performance. Imagine hearing your reverse gear running 60 mph.

Did you even try searching the "DRIVETRAIN and power" forum? Maybe you should take some courses on online internet searching skills, followed by a course on F/I?

 

I'd much rather have a DSG tranny from an Audi or the new 8-speed that BMW is making, shifts in under 100ms. But yeah, I'd love to have a 6-speed, cruising @ 4k rpm sucks.
