awesome! i would love to do this but scared to scratch the film...

is there a protective layer that we can take off from the one we took off from the lcd?
or is that a separate one that we buy?

how do we 'stick' the film back on to the glass?

Once you remove the stock film.. it's best to just throw it away....
If you don't take off stock film super carefully ... most likely it's not gona clean looking if you reuse them..
Also you have to tape them to the LCD screen if you put the stock film back on...

Those are some reasons you get new film to put on...

Good writeup. I can add in that googone works great for an adhesive remover. Also if you provide a larger peice of polarized film, the customer can rotate it to get different background colors. It also helps with matching the ODO and HVAC backgrounds.

When you rotate the film for example...
- if you use white leds you can turn the background light blue, navy blue or purple!

Providing the customer with a 4.5x4.5" sheet of film works great, they have leftover in case they mess up and can rotate it as described to get the desired effect. I will make a vid of what I am talking about and post it on here to contribute to the mod / your post.

Last note!!!!! ALWAYS use a brand new razor blade to scrape the adhesive! I have had a few customers scratch the glass when useing an old blade!!!

For now, here is an old vid I made so people can see what the film actually does. As it is rotated, you can see the screen go from dark to light. To see the color change you have to shine a white led flashlight through the screen as you rotate it.

bump

this should be added to tech

How easy is it to read the screens during the day? I'm considering doing this...

LEDmod 01-06-2009 07:16 AM

It's less visible during daytime, but not too bad.. but looks so much better when it's back-lit

Happy President's Day

So I ended up doing mine. I originally planned on doing just the ODO, but after seeing how great it looked I had to do the HVAC. Only thing is that whats strange is that they both came out differently... check it out:

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/.../photo-135.jpg

https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/.../photo-138.jpg

as you can see, on the HVAC's screen the film blocks the light very well, and the polarized areas are almost completely black when back lit. On the ODO, the digits aren't really any brighter than the digits othe HVAC, but the polarized areas glow noticeably more. I did both using the exact same process so I have no idea why this would happen haha. I'll have to experiment later...
