My left brake light went out a little while ago, and as I went to replace the bulb today I found that now the right brake light is out too. The third (center) brake light is still working.

I figured this just meant I need to replace the two bulbs, but to my surprise, replacing the left bulb did not fix it. (I didn't bother trying the lone new bulb on the right side.)

I thought maybe the issue is a fuse, but if it were wouldn't the third brake light cease to function too? I checked the "tail" 10 amp fuse, but in hindsight maybe I should have checked the "stop" 10 amp fuse. I've also read that if the brake light fuse is dead, I won't be able to get the car out of park (and that hasn't happened).

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? Thanks in advance.

Never mind, I was an idiot and hadn't fully plugged in the new bulb. The "stop" fuse was of course fine.
