Default 2008 tc audio system problems

I have an 08 tc that I bought new with the upgraded pioneer audio system. Over the weekend the system went out. I can turn it on, but it doesn't recognize cds, ipod, and the radio doesn't work. Took it in to the toyota dealership and they said it would have to be replaced and that because I'm out of warranty (I'm at 50,000 miles) that it would be $470 for a refurbed unit.

What I'm wondering is if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it.

Also does anyone know if the pioneer systems have their own separate warranty? It seems to me that they might, but I can't find any mention of it in my materials.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. I just put new brakes in a couple weeks ago and really don't want to have to spend this much to replace the audio system either.

If you have a spare $150 or so, you can just get a new single-din head unit, wiring harness, and fit kit and upgrade your system.

^ agreed. That might not be what you want to hear, but I'd go this route over dropping $470 from the dealer.

^^^ I'd go this route for about half the price. You'd need the harness but you'll have a way better unit with more features for less dough. Plus, it would eliminate that lousy bass reduction circuit built into the factory head unit that contours the bass down to nothing past half volume. Annoying for sure. You'll lose the factory ipod/aux plugs, steering wheels controls, and the SSP crap. Not sure if those things matter to you.
