amp trouble

I have 2 kicker subs, and a kenwood amp. Amp is 1800 watts. When I was traveling cross country the subs would stop working and I'd get a thump noise coming from my subs. I would just turn the radio off, keep driving and about half an hour later I would just turn it on and it would work, sometimes I would stop and make sure connection to battery was good and jiggle it a little.

Everything was working, I was driving home and had sound up loud, I had my phone plugged in and got a call, pulled the aux cord out but it connected to side so it did that scratch noise and my subs stopped working.

I pulled the install, reinstalled and still wouldn't work. I tested each sub with a 9v battery and both cones moved without scratching when I hooked them up.

I asked the local audio shop if they had a test bench or could put it under load to test it and they didn't understand that, and just tried to sell me some offbrand, hence I am trying to avoid going to another audio store.

Next thing to do is replace the RCA cables and see if something is shorted or wrong with my RCA cables. After that am I good to assume the amp is blown or what would my next course of action be?

Also: when I turn on my car initially, one sub will make one thump but nothing from the other sub. Even if i switch the wires around from one sub to the other, the same sub will make one thump and the other one wont.

check your ground for the amp, check your remote wire, if you're using your stock radio check your output converter.

sounds like your amp might be going bad... but like the guy above said check your grounds.

I have extra cable i'll run a new ground somewhere else, i cut a new remote wire, so ill do rca, if not Ill assume its the amp. Im using aftermarket radio.

quick thought....

you dont have your ground run all the way back to the battery do you?

No it is grounded somewhere in my trunk. I replaced my ground and rca cables and no luck. When I start the car and my headunit turns on and the amp turns on, the warning light on the amp is lit and the sub makes a pop and than the warning light turns off.

sounds like your amp is on its way out.

replaced the amp and spent the cash on a really nice amp.
Is placing the amp where the foam goes on the passenger side of the trunk bad? Should I keep it on top of the sub box?
