Default Car won't lock or unlock with Factory Keys? wtf?!?! input needed

Hey every1, so yeah my car won't lock or unlock with my factory key? idk wtf is up with it. was working fine 3 days ago well I thought it was then I noticed hey my blinkers aren't blinking when I unlocked the door and then realized it wasn't working.

any1 knows wat it can be? I thought at first it was the battery on the key but the red light still blinks when I press any button. does any1 know what else it can be? any input/information welcome its getting really annoying locking the door with the keyhole.

another thing, doesn't the car lock on its own after a certain amount of time? like when u tuen the car off take the keys out and close the door, doesn't it lock after awhile? cause its not doing that anymore.

HELP!!!

I would say for some reason it seems like it needs to be reprogrammed.
I have no idea how to do that though.

But yeah..hitting things always is a good fix.

sounds like its lost its programming, i believe the dealer is the only way to do it.
Also no our cars dont lock automatically. the only way it locks automatically is when the car is locked and you use the remote to unlock, and if you dont open the door after a little while then it will relock the doors for you..

Have you thought to check the battery in the remote and the fuses in the car?

did you try your spare key? if it was just one key failing to work the keyless entry, i would guess it was the battery, even if that little LED does light up, it probably has enough power to light up the LED, but not enough strength to broadcast to the car. so if your spare key works, then it would be the battery in the other key being dead.

if both keys aren't working, i would guess the problem is with the car itself, either it isn't receiving the signal, or there is a problem with it recognizing they key. assuming there isn't a fuse or something out.

That happened to me once. I thought I needed to change the key battery but that didn't solve it. I just reprogrammed the key and it worked again.

if you have the scion security system i believe it automaticaly locks after 30 seconds only if you press the unlock button and then do not open a door within 30 sec. thats how mine works anyway and im fairly sure thats what the manual says. gl

drax I don't have a spare key to the car I lost it years ago while I was moving and never was able to find it, I'm thinkin it was the battery has enough to light the led how u say but not enough to go threw to the car and if I leave the key alone for awhile and press the button the LED looks a lot brighter but when I continue pressing it it becomes very faint and dull. it might be that. airtothethrown how did u reprogram the key? is it really a dealership thing? and t8legos I don't have an alarm on the car its jus the factory keyless entry but I remember that my doors use to lock after awhile when I pressed the unlock button. now its not doin that at all. ugh!

well, does the car start all? if you can start the car with ur key, you don't have to bring it to the dealer, just do it urself.

by unplugging the battery, you probably reset the key too. or you just pressed the reset button on the key somehow.

try these steps...

1. Start with the following conditions: You are in the drivers seat-
a. Key is out of the ignition
b. Driver door is open (all other doors closed)
c. Driver door is unlocked (other doors don't matter)
2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition twice within 5 seconds
3. Close and open the drivers door twice within 40 seconds
4. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it.
5. Close and open the drivers door twice within 40 seconds
6. Insert the key into the ignition
7. Close the door
8. Turn the key in the ignition on and then off.
9. Remove the key from the ignition
10. The power locks should automatically cycle once to indicate that you have successfully entered program mode.
11. Within 40 seconds of the entering program mode:
a. Press both transmitter lock and unlock buttons SIMULTANEOUSLY for a duration of from 1 to 1.5 seconds.
b. Within 3 seconds, press the transmitter lock button for more than 1 second and release.
c. If the transmitter has been successfully programmed, the power locks will automatically cycle once. If they cycle twice, the remote has not been accepted.
d. If multiple remotes are to be programmed, repeat steps A-C
12. Open drivers door

Yeah I think that's what I did with my car too. It was embarrassing to do, kind of like doing the hokie pokie for your car.
