Dynamat and tC Q..

For the Scion tC owners. Has anyone put any Dynamat in there car? If how much did you need.
I am currently about to purchase some. I just need to know how much I may need.

Thanks! :D

Well, I don't own a tC, but I have extensive experience with Dynamat and use it in every vehicle I customize. How much you use depends upon what your ultimate goal is. Unless you are going for killer SPL, one layer would be enough. If you remove the headliner, all door panels, all seats and the carpeting, you would use between 2-3 bulk kits of Dynamat Xtreme, each kit having 5 pieces in it.

Again, you can get away with less, obviously, but assuming you do it complete, that should get you there. Adjust accordingly for more or less application area depending upon your goals.

Kind Regards,
Matt

umm no............ each Dynamat extreme bulk pack has 9 pieces in it. each kit is 36 sq ft, and each sheet is 3 square feet. Trust me I'm in the process of Dynamat my box right now, I think i'm going to have to order another kit. I have 2 right now, I don't think its enough.

Here's a tip... don't use Dynamat. It's overpriced and there are other alternatives out there.

BoomBox757 09-13-2004 01:25 AM

Dynamat is great, you can use 2 layers of some other stuff to equal dynamat extreme. and its not that expensive, just go in ebay and you can get it for $95 a pack, it retails for something like 200+

You can get similar material that is just as thick for less money. It's a no brainer unless you absolutely need the dynamat logo.

BoomBox757 09-13-2004 02:42 AM

its not about the thickness, dynamat extreme is thiner and lighter than regular dynamat but its 4x as good

scionfiend 09-13-2004 03:09 AM

Thanks for the great info. Looks like I will get getting the xtreme bulk pack for the entire car. 8)

You can get some "blackmat" on ebay that's 1.8 mm thick wheras dynamat extreme is 1.7 mm thick. The blackmat weighs .56 lbs per square foot compared to .45 pounds per square foot of dynamat extreme. You can get 50 sq ft of the stuff for 99 dollars. I'm not knocking dynamat as it is good stuff but you definately pay for the name.

Must agree, Dynamat is over priced. I got Fat Mat to do my explorer. It's the same thickness and acoustically the same. Plus it cost 128.00 (shipped) for 100 sq ft. I did the Explorer this weekend and the Fat Mat works great.
I did the front doors with 2 layers and the floor from the firewall to behind the rear seats. I still have 1 roll (50 sq ft ) left. Will do the rear doors this week. I think I'll put the other roll in my xB.

Where can I get Fat Mat?

BoomBox757 09-13-2004 10:13 PM

I'm not sure about these other brands, but I know that many other brands have a bad smell when your car gets hot. if you can get a deal, dynamat is the way to go

scionfiend 09-13-2004 10:21 PM

I did try an off brand in my last car. The only problem I had was the heat would make the mat come off. ____ed me off. I hope Fat Mat is not like that.

hongs66 09-15-2004 02:57 PM

When I did my box I used Dynamat and noticed a little smell the first couple days. I have noticed the same thing with the Fat Mat. It works just as good as Dynamat. I don't know about long term yet but it has been very hot in So Cal and the Fat Mat has stayed on for the last week with no problems. To find Fat Mat go to Ebay and do a search for Dynamat.

scionfiend 09-15-2004 04:11 PM

How much Fat Mat did you buy for your box?

oneslowxa 09-15-2004 07:09 PM

dynamat (brown stuff) tends to have a smell... dynamat extreme is the stuff you want no smell and it's extremely easy to put on... exteremly hard to get off... which is a good and bad thing...

the brown type of dynamat takes longer to install...

hongs66 09-15-2004 07:20 PM

Dynamat extreme is what I used on my box. It still had a little smell for a couple days. I got 100 sq ft of Fat Mat. It comes in two 50 ft rolls. I used 1 partial roll. I have a full 50 ft roll left to do more. I've got both front doors done with two layers and the floor is done from the firewall to under the rear seats. I plan on doing the rear doors, the rest of the floor and the rear hatch door in the future.

The ICE forums new sponsor Elemental Designs(edesignaudio.com) has some awesome deadening. I used it on my car, minimal smell. Definately a good investment, not only that, but it's INEXPENSIVE!!!! $1 per sqft. Doesn't get better than that.

scionfiend 09-16-2004 12:56 AM

Well the shipping to get the edead by Elmental is much cheaper than the Fat Mat site. Anyone got any reviews on the Edead?

kaosmoon 09-16-2004 03:21 PM

Thanks for the Head's up Jordan,

It's very appreciated. Being the new guy can be a little bit of a pain sometimes :)

Scionfiend,

There are a LOT of eDead users @ www.icixsound.com. Here is a recent thread I started looking for some pics on the site, http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthre...ighlight=edead, might find some users there.

Another thread ; http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthre...ighlight=edead

A review ; http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthre...ighlight=edead

And another ; http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthre...ighlight=edead

A lot of users over there :)

If you have any questions about the application or anything like that feel free to PM, I'd be happy to help out.

Weird first post :) I love the layout here. Good luck with your deadening search. There are definitely plenty of options.
