Default Elemental Designs..

So I installed 2 12W3s powered by a 500/1 amp in a sealed box...sounds good but not satisfied...want LOUDER. For the amount of money that I spent on the JL setup..I'm not completely satisfied. I found out about the ED stuff recently and want to go all ED and push out maybe 900 watts. I think that should satisfiy my tastes. Anyway heres a few q's.

1. I see that they sell custom Scion TC enclosures. Can I please see pictures of the enclosures?

2. Should I ebay my JL stuff or does someone reading this want to purchase or know someone willing to purchase my JL subs and/or amp.

3. Does the Nine.1 amp fit in that compartment next to the spare tire? I hear thats a good spot..my JL amp definitely didn't fit and i want it there..looks clean there =)

Mandos is the man you want to talk to about ED stuff. He'll hook you up.

BWAHAHAHAHA...I see post...I post.

Errr..

1. No, not yet. Can't take pictures of boxes in my hatch...since it's "slightly" modified. Working on getting 1 of each done and then we'll get some pics snapped.

2. Errr...I have no answer for that.

3. I think it does. Someone on here did that...but I can't for the life of me remember who

The 500/1 seriously disappointed me when I installed one for a friend. The amps today suck compared to the amps 10 years ago. I had several amps that were rated for 150 or 300 watts that seriously outperformed the 500/1. These days car stereo is all smoke and mirrors. You have to spend a bit of money now to get decent products. A name means nothing now, they all got bought out by Japanese companies, the good ones anyway. Rockford, PPI, Soundstream, HiFonics, Xtant, etc.. all not the same now. JL I think got bought out too. Their subs are not the same quality as when they hit the market.

So..after rethinking things.Wouldn't it be more practical to get something similar to a 1000/1 to get the loud sound I'm looking for? What do you guys think.Would that extra 500 watts be as loud as a 900 watt ED setup? I know i'm pushing it with the w3s...

^^ What size box are they in?? if it/they are pre-fabricated(mass produced) that's probably your problem...

try to find the JL H.O.(high output) box.... I had 2 12w3's in the HO ported box with 632RMS to it and it slammed pretty damn hard.... a ported box will most likely give you all the difference you're looking for.... The H.O. box gives you a good combination of tight and low.... only problem is: it engulfs the entire trunk and spare area....

another option would be a slightly bigger sealed box as that would give it a lower tune and most likely give you the impression you're looking for...

Each sub is in a 1.25 sealed box. Do you think I can benefit from a stronger amp? I have a good percentage taken off of all JBL and Infinity stuff through work. Maybe I can look into one of the JBl amps? What do you think. I can maybe work these W3's a little harder to see if I can achieve what I'm looking for.

Appreciate it TC_GUY you're always the go to guy on this board =)

okay...I've been giving this careful consideration...
JUICY-if your not satisfied with the output of the 12w3's on that 500/1 I'd say your best bet is to upgrade to W6's. The W3 is more designed to tight accurate bass, but not neccessarily High output or SPL. 2 10W6's on the same amp would prob play louder.

But me personally hearing this doesn't instill a lot of faith in JL. IF you're not satisfied by 2 12" subs then something ain't rite. MY 2 10" audiobahns give me more than enough bass to make my ears bleed and ____ off my neighbors. But if you're a REAL audiophile, go for the upgrade.

As far as ED...i've heard mixed reviews in threads on this site. I've NEVER seen/heard of anything ED on the street here in philly..maybe its a regional thing. I know that one guy MAndos is a rep or something and he pushes them pretty hard, i'm just a little skeptical though

Juicy: The W3v2's could definitely benifit from a stronger amp... maybe 800-900 watts... I'd only go up to 1000 if you're confident in your ability to correctly set gains as to not damage the subwoofer.... as I said, I'd probably build a custom ported box before anything as that will open up a considerable amount of audible volume and it's the cheapest upgrade (provided you like the sound of ported enclosures)....

as you can see, those subs CAN handle up to 500 watts fairly easily...

If you keep them in the sealed box, it'd be safer for a higher power amplifier because there is more resistance to cone movement due to vaccum pressure inside the box keeping the woofer from over-excurting (did I just make that word up?).... and BTW: those JBL amps are very nice!!

Sciontist:
No need to be skeptical in eD... they have super top notch customer service/tech service.... I'm running 2 of their 6.5" Subwoofers in a 30Hz ported box and it hits Lil Jon low or Slipknot accurate/fast.... here's a vid of them...
