I got the AVN-7000 HU and the radio works fine but when i try to access navigation the thing says "HDD in check mode". Anybody know of a way to solve this?

Sounds like a hard drive thing.

Right - sounds like a hard drive error - it sounds like the drive is detecting disc integrity problems and is trying to fix them... if I'm right, usually drives that are having those sort of problems are not long for this world - if it's under warranty, it's time to take it in.

inside the unit is this a normal computer hard drive? if so its pretty easy to run some disk checks on it if its not under warranty.

right, but that would mean taking it out of the unit and putting it in a computer. I don't know this for a fact, but I think it's most probable that it is a regular laptop harddrive - 2.5". Which would mean you'd need to get a 2.5 - 3.5 adaptor before you could do it in a desktop pc.

Can you get into the system check screen under the info screen? If so are you getting any readings?

Is this a new system or old? Did you just install it and if so did you install it yourself?

my local shop installed it. I can only access the radio and my RCAs (sirius is plugged in). Do you think if i just disconected my battery and reconnected it it would reset it and it would work?

I think you should go back to the shop and have them double check things. Since you paid someone to install I think they should try to troubleshoot it first. Sorry but I dont have such a nice radio (hehe) ...j/k ... but really - I would tell them it never worked. OR - call the manufacturer and have them tell you what that means. Once you know the problem its easier to know how to fix it.

the guys who installed it semi sponsor my vehicle. I have shown with them at many shows so they know it worked and were there when the first message popped up. They installed it even tho they dont work with eclipse units and the guy at crutchfield had no idea what the heck it goin into check mode was (no troubleshoot for that in the manual). I believe since it is basically a harddrive like a computer maybe some file is corrupted and it needs to be checked. The wierd thing is this happened last weekend and i hit a bunch of buttons (the solution to any problem) and it worked. But now i dont know how i did that... maybe i reset the HDD but I was just looking to see if anyone else has had an issue with their nav on their eclipse units. I will just contact eclipse tomorrow but i wanted to see if anyone on here had an answer.

I doubt it's one corrupted file - It might have been a corrupted file but it sounds like a hardware error, which will keep happening. I'd call Eclipse.

i mean a corrupted internal file... cause maybe it works like a computer and the drive might have a "boot" file... i dunno...

hypothetically possible... but disc checks just don't often come from one corrupted file.

Well it could be a couple of bad sectors with boot files on them. Once that happens forget about it, the hard drive is never the same.

the HD probably failed... although I'm sure its well protected its still a hard drive in a moving, climate variable environment like a car, so not surprising

good thing you're getting it replaced
