i bought some old school 15" kicker cvrs yesterday, they bump hard. right now, i have them hooked up too my pioneer 760watt amp.
there's a uy on craiglist i talked to that will sell me a kicker 1200.1 amp for $250. i was wondering if this is too much power for the subs and if i'll end up blowing them. I know nothing about car audio really.
the subs can handle 1000 watts rms max.

your more likely to burn a sub due to under powering then over powering. Its better to have more power then less. You can always adjust the gain on the amp so that the subs do get over powered.....

well i keep blowing the fuse on my pioneer amp, so maybe how it's only a 760 watt amp is the problem. i fixed it yesterday and it blew yesterday, so i guess i'm gonna try this amp out. hopefully i'll pick it up today.

The fuse pop for a reason, you need to find out the problem before putting in a bigger amp. Otherwise your just looking for more trouble. I think it's your OHM impedance is too low for the amp to handle, that's why your popping fuses. Could you list your subs spec and amp specs? And how you are hooking up the subs to the amp?

everyone is way off, underpowering wont kill it as bad as that 1200.1 class D will. it will straight murder them, that amp will be better used on solo's, im talking DEAD and quick, the fuse is blowing because of the wrong OHM load, how are the subs run(parallel or series) and how are the speakers wired?

Under powering a speaker can cause clipping (due to over powering the amp), which can damage the sub. So in reality were both correct.

But I also think that the low powered amp will fry before the sub blows.

I agree with the people above the amp blowing fuses has to be a wiring issue. Check the wiring.

might sound dumb but think should be fine on power considering i had 10" cvr's on the zx750.1 and didnt have enough power; kept putting the amp into protective mode to keep from overheartin/blowing.....check all of your grounds and your wiring as a bad or lose ground can cause issues

You're right to an extent.

If the gains are set right, you won't clip, therefore the amp won't blow

You don't need to buy a 300w amp for a 300w sub. if under powering killed subs, we'd all be ____ed. Think about it.

I personally like to have headroom so the amp doesn't work itself when u crank it up.

Get an amp that does 800-900 at your final ohm load and you'll be good OP

i recoment you use o ly 400w for each kicker dont you use more them 800w to kep ur sound equal whit no distorcion and kep it low them 80h to make the low bass go more up them usual

i got 2 kickers old school on my acoord whit pionier radio and spekers and sound good and clear even whit out amp only radio and the canals for rear speker use it like subwoofer cus the pionier radio come whit 800w so u cand swich ur rear chanels to a subwoofer and conver those 2 rear chanel from 250 to 400w perfect for one 12" or 2 10"

So I have 2 15 in kicker comp type c hooked up to my kicker cxa 1200.1 amp I just installed these what I had previously was 2:15 inch kicker cvrs the gray ones and I had those hooked up in parallel and let me tell you they pound I've had them in there for months I also have the lc2i converter tapped into my rear speakers and I have not had any problems my game on my amp is a quarter way up and so forth you will not blow those subs like I said I just installed the kicker Comp type c 15s in my car and I am very satisfied I'm not sure which ones I want to keep in my car though but for being single coil the type c sounds really good and I'm happy with it
