Problem with cruise control and airbag

i just bought my 2007 tc and the only thing that was wrong with it was the horn doesnt work and the cruise control so the guy that had it before me took it up to the dealer and they said it was the spiral cable which he said it was located behind the steering wheel, but i need to know if thats gonna be an easy fix or should i just let the dealer do it. The car is not under warrenty anymore but they want $354 dollars to fix it so i was trying to find a cheaper way out. any thoughts?

thanks

Get the cable and do it your self I bet it's not hard. They charge you an arm and leg at dealerships

Steering wheel cover comes off by removing 2 screws.
Steering wheel comes off by removing 1 bolt.

Make sure the steering wheel is straight before removing it.

if its going to cost that much might as well get a quick release steering wheel

its easy to take the steering wheel off and mess with that because i had to re-do my spiral cable when trying to take wheel off for my quick release

That would be an option, but depending on where you live, it likely isn't legal to remove the airbag. Would be "off road use only" kind of thing. Not that it stops people, but worth considering or looking into.

yea well here in california its illegal....but most cops dont know, i've seen other people get pulled over for other stuff like exhaust, etc but I havent seen them get a ticket for the steering wheel.unless you get a cop who knows their stuff but thats highly unlikely to happen..

^^ what's not illegal in cali?

well actually.. as the consumer.. you can remove the airbag...
i believe the law is more the fact that automakers need to provide you with one.

cali cops are getting much more smart nowanddays with what is illegal and what's not.. mostly because when it gets brought to court, the last thing the cop needs is for them to be wrong.

also, removing the steering wheel is not difficult.
