Radar Hardwire

Trying to hardwire a radar detector in my daughter's 2006 TC. She wants it low on dash so dome light is not practical. Found fusebox in engine compartment, but all fuses are switched on all the time. Fusebox under driver wheel didn't have ant blade type fuses to hook up to. Need a fuse that will turn off with ignition. Thank you.

There is a TECH article on this.

And there are several fuses in the inside fuse box(under steering wheel). The one marked ECU turns on with crank.

i have mine low on the dash. ran the wire through the defrost vent, under the headunit and tapped it to the cig lighter and fused it.

I do for a couple of reasons.

- You still have 365 sight (tried and true)
- It is easily hidden with the visor down (i.e. Virginia)
- The display can go completely dark while keeping the audible alert (rx65+)
- Out of sight, out of mind x2!
- Does not obstruct view

Being that my control is next to my fog light switch, I can easily mute it or change the audible level without the need to stretch over. It's nearly impossible to hide wires when a radar is smack dab in the lower center of the windshield.

very nice switch location. I did the same thing to my friends TC. I basically drilled the wholes for the lights and switch and mounted the guts behind it. But it looks like you actually cut a section out. How did you do this?

many valid points, especially if they're not legal in your state. the only reason i like it in the middle where i can see it is cause i always have my system up so i always see it light up before i hear it.

I'm also interested in how you cut the knockout panel to fit the hardwire controls and how you are securing it in there so it doesn't push out when you hit mute.
