Running Power Cables

Where's is the best place to run the power cable from the amp to the battery? Thru the firewall or under the car? Any links to threads that have these pics in them would be great?

I would recommend the same way they run it with the factory optional sub.

I have attached a link to the install directions from trdsparks.com

Also try searching DIY amp install on SL.

Inside! Outside leaves too much a risk of that wire getting snagged or cut. The PVC jacket could also wear away.

There's a spot cables are run through on the right side of the block and down... probably about 6 inches. I put a coat hanger through it, taped my wire to it and pulled it through. You can see it easily on the inside if you look up under the dash on the driver side near the steering wheel linkage.

Not if it's done correctly. Have you ever looked under your tC?

That's my car from the rear looking forward, with 4awg run under it. Nice of Toyota/Scion to provide a place for it, as you can see. If that cable snags on something, I'd say there's a lot more to worry about then just the audio system, such as the brakes and gas.

And running them inside doesn't guarentee no problems, as we saw in the thread where one guy ran his power cable in paralell with his RCAs, yet wondered why he had noise.

Either way is fine, it just has to be done right.

the under the car of the power line is good if you live in California. When you live in IL, you have to factor in Snow and salt eating away at the casing

if you cant lift your car go for under the car that looks impressive but i did mine in 5 mins by just pushing it through under the dash on the driver side just grab a pen or something and push the wire thro and grab it under the hood

I drilled a new hole and put a gromet in to protect it.

I thought of doing this but was paranoid about hitting something on the other side.

it's pretty easy to measure where is safe. I used a ruler and a center point that I could see on both sides to make sure I wasn't going to drill throw a brake line or something. Just measure and double measure and you should be fine. Or you can take it to a sound shop and they will drill and run the wire for you through your firewall.

this is really what you should do
drill the stock gromet to a bigger size so that you can run 0awg through the driver side of the car.
And since you do not want RCA cables on the same side as the power cable, you can run them on the passenger side.
This is generally how many shops would install a system in a car.
