ryomanmkiii and his tc's ongoing audio thang.

So, check this out.

I'm trying to get my sub and amps in the car and it's happening slowly but surely. With work, school and other projects I'm making sure I use what ever time I can find.

I already put my Polk components in the front. I've been working on building a "custom box" for the sub.

First thing I did was trace my cargo mat and make a cardboard template.

Then I made more cardboard templates for the contours of the wheel well etc,.

I traced them out to MDF to cut out. (FIY, do not use MDF from Home Depot. It splits all day. I used it because it was free. Lowes had the MDF I prefer.) Then I used those pieces to make a skeleton. An ugly skeleton.

Next I covered the skeleton in felt. I could have used fiberglass but, an installer with more experience than me dropped that gem on me. I tried it. If I don't like, I can make another one.

So today before the hurricane rain came, I laid the resin on it. (You can see the split wood and parts of the skeleton that should be cut off. No saws-all. Sad day)

See that wheel well contour?

First time I've ever done anything like that but, I had to. I wanted to keep that space that come with having a hatchback. It came out better than I imagined. Not perfect or awesome but pretty good. I felt like I deserved a good lunch after all that.

More come, amps, wire, cap, alarm...all that jazz. Comment if you want to.

It feels like that where all my money is. *sigh* I should have the box finished with pics up by thursday.

Mmmm...corned beef  haha! Good luck with your project, man. I'd love to see how it would look like when finished. :)

whats sub are you putting in?
did you spec the box to the sub?

ryomanmkiii 09-02-2008 07:37 PM

The sub is Polk DB124DVC. The spec is .88 cubic ft sealed. I estimated the space from a box design that I came up with earlier. I mostly went with the Kicker Mantra : This is the minimum space required for this speaker.

I really like corned beef hash! Try to avoid the walmart brand. It was way too greasy. Time for some sanding.
