Scion tC 1G - Big Three (Big 3) Upgrade
Just finished upgrading the Big Three. Here are the specs and some pictures of the finished product.
Alt > Pos = 36" of wire
Neg > Chassis = 22" of wire - I think it could be 2" shorter.
Chassis > Motor = 10" of wire
(lengths do not include terminals)
And on to the pix...
The wires - 0/1 gauge CCA wires. I know, I know. "CCA sux", but I found it cheap and it should be equivalent to at least 4 gauge OFC, probably closer to 2 gauge.
The Big Three - Still debating if I want to cover the wires with a loom to make it look more stock.
Ground wires - I used the stock chassis ground, which was kind of difficult to get to since it's in a small cavity under the battery. I did, however, use a new ground point for the motor. It was a lot easier to get to than the stock motor location and it saved me a few inches of wire.
Ground detail - As you can see, the gap between the bolt and the battery cage is pretty narrow. I used a wrench and my fingers to get it into place. I would recommend using a ratcheting wrench (10mm) if you have one. Else, be ready for lots of 1/4 turns.

i have all the stuff to do this, my only question is i know you can keep you stock ground cable but do you just remove your stock alt cable or just leave it and run the other power wire as well? i've looked around and couldn't find any answers.

Thank you for the write up I am about to do the big 3 right now. I already installed my amps and speakers. I have 2 12in Rockford fasgate P3s on 600 watts rms each @ 1 ohm, infinity kappa 6 1/2 doors speakers 100 watts to each, and 42 square foot of dynamating though out the entire car. I have some min dimming under high load so I will test the big 3 tonight to see if dimming had been fixed. Here are some pics of my set up, hopefully building a custom box soon.
