Speaker Installation
 

i had a question about the interior speakers. i have heard that the fronts are 6.5 and the rears are 5.25. i have the 6.5 and 5.25 speakers and tried to fit them but they seem smaller than the stock ones that are already in there.

also the plug in wires are connected to the stock ones and the aftermarket (MBQuart) dont have those plug in things. how do i install my speakers??

I believe you need to get some baffles in order for them to fit...

how am i supposed to mount the speakers on those things?? do those holes have threads in them for the bolts??

Bolt the baffles to the doors, screw the speakers to the baffles. It will look something like this:

Hey Doc, I see you make them out of 3/4" MDF, is there anyway you could make them 1" thick?

okay go down to your local best buy and pick up crystler speaker adaptors metra part # 82-6600 a pair is 16$ youll need two (pair) okay thiers five tabs all together, the two smallest one need to be cut off then with the three remaining tabs screw rityh into door dont use factory screws!!!! those speaker brackets fit 6.5 inch speakers and 6.5 inch speakers is what you have all the way around... also a great idea is that if you go through all the trouble to expose the rear speakers get a small alot of dynamat for the rear way if you feel it its just sheet metal thats it it will cut down alot of road noise as well!!! dynamate 2 speaker kit 23$ at best buy.......!!!!
okay the other parts from best buy your going to need is metra # 72-8104 those are speaker harness's that plug rith to facory so no cutting and right polarity (easy) thier 12$ for a pair youll need 2 (pair)

I have 6x9's in my rear two alpine type r's fit right were the 6.5 would just screw down with long screws 3 are only gonna fit then around the inside of the speaker grill thier a plastic ring that goes around cut that of and bam 6x9's in the rear

do the baffles come with the mounts?? is the rear the same size??

Anything is possible. I could do 1 1/4" as well.

I figured as much. Would the price of $30 be the same or would the price be higher due to the thickness going up? I need to buy some for my new comps and I think an inch will be the ticket but I may need to double check. I'll send you a PM tomorrow probably.

eD offers them pre-made, or any shop with a router could cut them out for you relatively quickly. Or you could cut the stockers out of the integrated plastic baffle and use that, but I wouldn't recommend it. Also, coat your wooden baffles in Kilz or some kind of waterproofing substances. Rotted baffles = bad.

I appreciate the info but I will never buy anything from ED for various reasons. Doc makes some nice ones from the looks of it.

It's not that long of a thread, I read the whole thing, just stating a simple fact that a local shop could do the job faster and cheaper than ordering online.

As for the OP's second question, cut the plug off or splice wires into those wires if you plan to return to stock eventually. Here's a site with the wire color codes.

what do i screw the speakers on?? do the baffles come with something that attaches with the speakers??

You screw the speaker directly onto the baffles.

oo. are the baffles made out of the material same as the corks in the wine bottles??

No, wine bottle corks are usually made out of cork. Or synthetic cork (I'm not making that up). Baffles are generally made out of MDF (medium density fiberboard) or birch plywood.

not trying to be a douche, but make sure you a lot more research before you attempt to do this sort of install yourself.

what does that question have to do with anything with installation. i was just asking what the material it was made out of.

i know my ____ on how to do stuff for my car so please dont say that to people you know nothing about.
