Technical question about Immobilizer and ECU for a 05 tC
Hi, can somebody shed some light to me about the immobilizer unit on our tC, currently I own a 05 and a 08 Scion tC, I bought the 05 tC wreck so it doesn't have any key ,so, I swap the 08 Immobilizer module in to the 05 and get the key cut for the 05 at the dealership and then put the 08 (programed) tC key next to the immobilizer amplifier inside the 05 tC hoping if I can get the car start , but the car still won't start, I can't get my car move to the dealership because it doesn't even have any suspension on it , is it possible if I can send out the immobilizer module and the ECU to get the key program for the 05 tC? ???
I heard that the ECU recognize the VIN number for each vehicle ? how does it work? does it have a separate module to CAN network to the ECU ..????
Is it necessary to swap the ECU and Immobilizer unit all together ????
Thank you in advance... Thank you

you can call the dealership with the vin number of the 05 and get a key made for it with the original transponder receiver in the 05 and it should start right up unless you damaged the transponder ring at the ignition...

the key needs to be programmed into the car's ecu... which requires the car, the cut key, and a special Toyota tool called Techstream (a laptop nonetheless)
you'll require a dealership visit, and money.

Exactly ,the key needs to be programmed for the ECU to recognize so i assume it is not just the immobilizer that match the key but also the ECU, you know any source that I can send my ECU and immobilizer unit for them to reprogram or they will have to connected to the can network through the OBDDII Port only?

no no no you dont need to reprogram ecu , that is why we have a seperate immobilizer ecu two things all you need would be a new immobilizer ecu and new master key. or reset immobiliozer ecu. and you could still use old key.

transponder ecu will need to be replaced only , and it will go into automatic registration mode, immobilizer light will blink and once you install key it will register you will also need to marry both ecu's with, key on and jump TC and CG pin 13 and 4 , for about 30min after 30min switch off key remove wire and test , transponder ecu needs to be new.

dont mean to open this old thread up, but im having some issues with my situation. i swapped out my engine ecu to a junkyard one. everything registers when i turn the key, it will crank but not run. now do i have also have to get a brand new transponder in order to get the car running again? reason i switched ecu's is because my old one can not be reflashed back to stock (trd reflash)

So to confirm, you cant use that open/close door method as the xb because of the immobilizer chip right? meaning .... is there a way to reprogram the 2005 tC key without going to the dealer?

Topic back from the dead ... so you have the key but are swapping ecu's currently? When I put my new stock ecu in (junkyard ecu), to get rid of the trd tune, I needed the dealer to reflash it, or re-program something to get it to start working. This was many years ago....
PS:
I 'do' have strupp headers sitting in a box still, if anybody needs them - The injectors and subwoofer are long gone. I haven't been on this forum in a long time.

I guess more specifically, if there is a transponder/immobilizer problem and you insert the key to start, would the engine still turn over and does the fuel pump prime? I found a few videos on the visual symptoms such as the security light will continue to blink in a "bad" condition but stop blinking when its mated.

If it's anything like our Nissan's the ignition is turned off until the chipped key is used. One thing I'm looking into on the tC Spec models shows there is not an immobilizer.
So, I'm guessing if you can find a spec harness and ecu there is a chance to get rid of the security crap... I'm going to look at a parts car this weekend that might be a spec model
