a touch of suede... it's done.

'something inside my passenger side sun visor crapped out, and it wouldn't hold its position whenever i put it down to secure my sunshade in the windshield. i took the cover off, and it looks like i can fix the broken part with some strong glue.
however, now i need to rewrap it, and i figure this is a good opportunity to add some little custom touches to the interior. i was thinking some charcoal suede stiched with black thread to rewrap both visors, cover the center armrest and make a new shift boot. what do you guys think? any input is much appreciated.

just do it, then people can see.

bencott 08-18-2008 01:58 AM

ok, the suede is done for now. we re-wrapped the sun visors, covered the center armrest and made a new shift boot. my mom did all the stitching, and i did everything else. it came out pretty good. it's not perfect, but i'm mostly happy with it. the only part i'll probably get redone is the shift boot. anyway, on to the pics.

did u just glue that right over the stickers on the visors?

bencott 08-18-2008 12:45 PM

no, i cut open the old covers and slipped on the new ones. we didn't use any glue for the visors.

ack154 08-18-2008 12:53 PM

I would have maybe made the boot a little shorter. But it looks good anyway. Nice job.

bencott 08-18-2008 12:59 PM

thanks, man. i'll probably just have a local upholstery shop make me another shift boot at some point in the future.

cavalierkid888 08-18-2008 04:33 PM

wow that looks pretty good actually. i'm really diggin the armrest

jurassic1 08-18-2008 08:00 PM

Looks really good, man. Props to your mom for a nice job! Maybe you guys can start selling them? lol! :P

bencott 08-19-2008 01:28 AM

heh, thanks, guys. my mom did do a great job. she was a bit nervous to start, but once we did a couple of dummy pieces for practice she was stitching like a pro. :P

hyperwhitetc 08-19-2008 01:35 AM

yeah looks good, now you should get on and finish the rest of the interior ie, pillars and headliner. i like the stitched design.

davedavetC 08-19-2008 01:38 AM

the stitching looks pretty damn good

frankensteinwill 08-21-2008 03:39 AM

snazzy...I like

tcCALI 08-21-2008 04:29 AM

i really like the visors it gives it a very nice touch.

bencott 08-21-2008 12:36 PM

thanks for the compliments, everyone. i'm glad you all like them. :P

nauticac 08-21-2008 01:47 PM

bencott, you can look into redlinegoods.com to make you a shift boot. One of the guys is a member here and shows his products off every once in a while.

tcridinclean 08-21-2008 04:01 PM

u should start selling these dude

$$$$

bencott 08-21-2008 05:09 PM

heh, thanks, javi. unfortunately the pics don't show all the little imperfections. i couldn't even think about selling these until i got it perfect, and that would take at least half a dozen more. it would be nice to get some cash on the side, but i just don't think i can match the quality that people would expect.

phaserstudios 08-22-2008 04:41 AM

Well it's great that you're honest about that haha. And i love the arm rest. That would go great with the Suede seat covers I'm planning on late this month. Soooo...work on that perfection :P
