Default Is it true?

Is it true that there is a stock type sub that connects directly to the Scion head unit without having to wire power cables and such, so I could easily just throw it into my tC for some better bass? I think that's what I understood from someone. If it's true how do i go about getting one?

Thanks and sorry I know I could have probably searched a bit more to find info on this but it's very difficult to search on here and besides I need to start working soon I've been sitting at my desk for about 30 mins now

Well there are 2 types of subs that the tc can have in them from the factory or you can buy to keep a factory look/feel

At first they had a Bazooka 10" powered sub. it sits in the back hatch area and provides little to no bass ( from me experiance)

The other is a 6" sub that is mounted under the rear hatch carpet area.
I haven heard it so I can say anything about it .

They both are pretty simple to put in and just require you to run some cable to your headunit. I think it took me a good hour to get that bazooka sub in the tc. Thats taking the interior parts off, running cable, and putting everything toghter.

I was unimpresed by the sub . I think its a 50watt rms sub.
For the money (I paid 275) id do a differant brand of powered sub.

hmm i heard the one in my friends MRS (he put in a scion head unit :D) and it sounded really good to me, i mean for a 10 inch powered one at least. So those ones that go next to the spare are the same kind huh, thats very intriguing.

Not quite, but close. The 10" side-mount optional sub comes with a harness that has to be connected to the HU, then routed to the rear where it connects to the sub enclosure. So you basically only have to be concerned with one cable, rather than seperate pwr, gnd, rem & signal wiring.

The one in the spare tire bay... The 6" sub, is standard in all 07-08 tCs. It comes installed from the factory

Well, it's only 6" and 35w, so how good do you think it'd be? It adds a bit of bottom end compared to the system w/o it, but calling it a "subwoofer" is pushing the term a bit.

Sounding good is all relative. I personally think anyone that thinks the stock sub gives bass is wrong. It sounds horrible and in no way shape or form reproduces the lows. But thats my opinion. And my opinion is based on, if your gonna do it, do it right. Throw some high end 10"s or 12"s in there.

35watts or a sub is pathetic. But I am pushing 1200ish RMS, so my idea of sounding good is different than most. And some say that is excessive, some say its nothing. So its all personal opinion.

well i understand i can't expect a whole lot our of those type of subs the main reason i ask is i've done the whole ginormous box thing in previous cars and i just don't wanna fill up my whole trunk with a couple subs and an amp. I just wanted something smaller and simple. But i'm gonna look into doing some custom stuff under that carpetted area.

Take a look in the post your system thread. I believe it was nick that had a pretty nice set-up that didn't take up any room and look great. It's all in how creative you can get and still get it to sound good.

There is a stealthbox that goes under the trunkmat on the passenger side and houses a 10" elemental design sub (sub comes with it). Just search for stealthbox and you'll find it.

:edit: OK, I did it for you, here's ONE link....but there's more.

Hmm, not sure it'd be enough for ya, considering you've had more serious sub-systems. However, the stock sub might be adequate if you augment it with a couple bass shakers. That would meet your requirement for not taking up space and keeping it simple. All you'd need is a couple of THESE , and an inexpensive small amp with LPF, such as this unit. Install a bass shaker under each front seat, with the amp in the hatch storage area (LPF set at around 60-80Hz), and at least it'll feel like the bass of a couple 10" subs, even if it doesn't exactly sound like it.

hmm interesting concept I've never encountered it before. I'd love to see what that's like.
