I used to customize the 04-05 tC's at Toyota's Distribution Center years ago but have never seen this in the trunk or at the very least don't remember it. I'm pretty sure I've never seen this thing.

Can anyone please tell me what it is? I need to know if I can remove it to install a Rear Tie Bar.

They added these in the later years of the first gen tC. I have an '07 with the foam sections instead. I think some of the factory subwoofer went in those compartments but basically the same as the foam insert section but instead a plastic shell.

Yeah, that's the scrubwoofer. If you remove it, you might want to turn off the subwoofer on the head unit.
