Default What do you see the future of car audio / mp3 files being?

My 2 opinions are
-Sending songs via your pc to your car on a hard drive
-cell phones = mp3 players that you plug into your car, saving having a mp3 player/phone

I was thinking, I am not big on Ipods...I wish somebody would develop a unit that you could use wi-fi or bluetooth and send mp3 files via your computer to your car. IT would have to store the files on a hard drive that could have a stereo access the files.

But that'd be awesome...Sync your pc mp3 folder w/ your car with the touch of a button and always have the latest mp3s from your PC to your car!

Would this at all be possible in some way?

Or a phone company needs to develop a good phone mp3 player that has 4+ gigs storage, then u could plug your phone into your car stereo and play songs via your phone to your car stereo, that way always have your cell...always have your music for the cars!

Im sure it will happen, just a matter of when...what do u see the future of music in cars being?

They have things like this already....

1st you can hook the songs you have on your phone via the aux input and play them through your system ... actually (for alpine specifically) you can connect an extra set of rca's through your ai-net and then run a rca-headphone jack converter into your cell and get that to play

and 2nd they are already making car stereos with hard disk drives that can save up to 3000 songs! Eclipse has two units that do this the avn 7000 and the avn 5495(double din) .... pioneer also has a double din unit that does the same thing.... so get out to your local specialty stereo shop and pick some up pierced lip lol

You're right, it will all be wireless.

Your cellphone will merge with your mp3 player and store videos, photos, etc.

It will wireless connect to everything you own, including your garage door, house appliances, lights in the house, etc.

You can already do this to a certain extent... but it will be seamlessly controlled through your computer, with the cellphone/mp3 player being

talking about seamless integration, on Beyond Tomorrow (Discovery Science), they had a car that could control every appliance/electronic in your house while you're out on the road... check to see of your coffe pot was left on, or the clothes iron... pretty neat...

but back on topic, I think it'll all be bluetooth integrated and bluetooth will be expanded to an extent of cellphone coverage... so you'll be able to listen to music from your car that's stored at home or on a central database of other people's music as well....perhaps a rating system as in Yahoo music...

if they do eventually merge the cell, mp3,video,photo together, think of how bad it would suck to lose it. Unless the software was incredibly easy to use, i may find myself overwhelmed by this small little thing that controls my entire media life. But thats just me.

I know they have them, but i wanna start seeing more in car computers that control everything, pics, mp3s and music and videos, while being able to connect extra hard drives via firewire and or usb. That would be tight. It would be like havin everything in your car.

I was actually looking into doing the WiFi transfer from my home computer to my car once I get my carputer setup. It isn't that hard. I have seen where people have it set up so the car automatically sends a wireless signal checking for new songs when it starts. That way, you always have the new music from your computer when you leave the garage. That is my plan when I do mine. Search www.mp3car.com and you should be able to find out how it is done.

I can already do both things you mentioned in your first post, I have a portable hard drive that i have all my music on and just bring it inside when i want to add stuff. or, i can tranfer it to my phone that can store 512 megs on it and load that onto my car.

And last but not least, i can also do a wireless connection when im in my driveway, so i can transfer that way too.

I sure do love having my CarPC!

what all is involved in a car PC?

I just got the eclipse avn5435 as I said, and it has outs in the back...Is it in the sense I could create a windows desktop with all my folders? Would I still be able to use the touch screen...I can get computer stuff pretty cheap if its older stuff from work probably...whats the min I'd want to run something like that?

I do have a laptop I dont use, but i think it runs too hot to run daily for music...

if any links to fill me on more info, be AWESOME

thx

The future for car audio is also looking bright in areas other than those mentioned thus far in the thread.

Though the standard electrical system for cars has been 12v for quite a while now, manufacturers plan to go with 42v (36v battery) systems in the future. Higher voltage will require less current draw, enabling wiring to be thinner and lighter (they're also going to "multiplexing", where one wire can replace several, but that's OT). For car audio, this will mean more power from smaller amps at lower cost.

Speaker technology is also progressing, such that smaller speakers will be able to perform on par with larger drivers, such that more mounting locations will be available to acheive better soundstaging & imaging, making it easier to obtain either/both than compared to today. Of course newer DSP signal processing will also help in the SQ area, due to improved understanding of HRTF and psycho-acoustics.

There's going to be a lot of change, and it's going to be good!

The iPod is taking over. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more manufacturers started offering iPod plug-ins in the future.

Phones just can't hold enough to keep up. Of course, that'll improve too, down the road.

I agree about the hard drive, or some other kind of data storage in the head unit.

I dont have a Playstation 2, but I noticed the Slim PS2 is not like $130 at newegg.com and few others...its small enough, and if you mod it, I ready a little about upgrading hard drives in it, and mp3 players....may be the simplest route for storage/playing mp3s...but I wonder if you could upgrade the hd with a usb port? think ps2s had usb?

Either way, maybe an Idea!
