What interior speakers are you using?
Infinity Reference's 6.5" front and back.
components with 1" tweets in the front, crossovers in the doors
coaxials in the back
powered by a Rockford p400.4
I found the speakers where kind of a PITA to install, because the stocks were riveted in. I made some wooden brackets out of 3/4" MDF. I also dynamated around them to keep it from rattling. I tried to use the plastic brackets that came with the speakers, but they sucked, and it sounds much better with the MDF brackets.
About a year ago, when I did the install, I ran across someone in a forum that was making and selling brackets. He had them painted black, and they seemed nice. I figured out what to do by looking at those, and basically traced the stock ones for a template.
I don't remember, but I think the glass in the door might hit the back of the speaker if they arn't mounted a little farther out, just check it when you install, it will save trouble later.

...and not without humor.
I'm using an older Punch 200a4
Good to know, thanks for the tip!

^Why is it stupid? It sounds fantastic with the stage set a tad toward the front. The new speakers handle the mids way better than the stock ones ever could. Also, I left the stock tweets in. It can be a little bright but with the treble at +/-0 its perfect.
I also added a level control to the sub, which I highly recommend if your HU doesn't already have one and you listen to different genres.
On another note (no pun intended) the oem setup was a little surprising ... 6.5 poly cones in front and 5.? paper cones in the rear. And the rivets in front/screws in back, wtf Toyota? lol.

for real the stock speakers arent great and really cant handle much power at all.
I used Polk DB6501 for a while, which i got at circuit city when they were liquidating. I dont think Polk makes them anymore but they were decent speakers that were pretty affordable.
^ Your post is somewhat misleading, as the stock speakers can handle a lot more power than the HU puts out, and they can sound much better when powered by a real amp. Part of the reason is that the HU doesn't actually put out it's advertised wattage, in fact it's only around 15wpc, pushing it beyond that results in distortion, which is one reason why you'd say the stock speakers "arent great and really cant handle much power". The other reason is because they're sent a full-range signal from the stock HU, and they won't sound clear when asked to produce low frequencies at higher SPLs, but that's true of most aftermarket 6.5" speakers too. When using an external amp, most of them have a high-pass filter, and when it's used to keep the low frequencies from being amp'd and sent to the speakers, they sound a lot better at much higher volumes.
So, the stock speakers can be made to sound quite decent at fairly loud volume, if powered by an external amp and high-pass filter.

agreed as well. i'm running a 12 year old xtant 121m amp (that used to run a single sub in my first car) on my stock front door speakers in the tc. they sound awesome! i had this amp running the stock front door speakers in my '01 4runner for 8 years before this car. everyone that listens to my system doesn't believe the door speakers are stock. get a good quality amp and utilize the appropriate filter and gain level and you can make stock speakers really clean and loud.
Lets say i want 4 component speakers hooked up to a 4 channel amp, i have an aftermarket HU already, whats a decent brand that has good quality and nice bump? and whats a rough price range id be spending on that kind of setup
