I had 35% tint all the way around and my front two windows started to peel so I went back to who tinted them and got them replaced for free with the life time warranty...

I asked them to put 25% tint on the front but they said that legal was 35%...

I'm in TX and online at several tint law sites it says the legal limit is 25%!!!!
So should I go back there and tell them to put 25% which IS legal in TX??

I would rather have like 20% on the front and either 5% on the rest or just 5% on the hatch and 20% on the rear windows....

Also I hate when people say they want "window tints"... It's "window tint" not "tints"

Oh, and they wouldn't let me put anything darker then legal because the cops were getting on them about putting darker than legal... which I think is BS

 

I don't think you can make the company apply illegal tint... You can try another shop to see if they would do it, but they wouldn't honor your warranty... Shrug.

 

I am going to try another place(Jacks Stereo), because IMO they do better work than who did the tint I have now... Been around for 20+ years and family owned...

I would have gone to the other place first but my dealership had already put tint on it through Shades Custom Tint... (what I have now)

oh well....and plus I only wanna go 5% darker than legal...25% to 20%

ive called a few local tint places and asked how much for tint and what %. all have said 35% is the lowest they can go, i never questioned if they know the law though. i might when my GF gets her new Camry tinted. however on tintlaws.com and txdps both say 25%..........

it came from the dealer with 35%, ive been wanting to go lower to 25% but of course couldnt find anyone to do it, and i dont know if it will be a big enough difference?

I got 5% in the back and 35% in the front windows and im in Cali so i think its a little more strict here

 

If they don't know the legal limits for the state they are operating business in, I'd find another tint shop if I were you.

 

i emailed txdps about the tint law and what % was legal. they forwarded me the link i posted earlier, so im guessing 25% is the legal limit in TX now?

 

I always thought it was 35, but it wont matter for me come inspection time. I have 20% percent in the front and 5% in the back. I would think that since the companies are strict about that, than the only other option would be to do it yourself. It does suck and takes time, but after a few tries its like icing a cake.

How much do those companies charge anyways to put on tint?

 

in Milpitas California you'll get a ticket for having 35%...they say never touch your front windows... you cant even smoke your lights...dam faqs.

 

Dealing with tint companies always sucks. I used to have a hookup that I trusted (he tinted full time plus did side work) that would basically do whatever YOU wanted; legal or not. It's a shame he moved.

I say find a shop where you feel comfortable and take a copy of the law with you if they balk. Don't get 'em too riled up though; you still want them to do a good job.

 

You could do it hassle free and cheaper yourself :D

 

yup! anything on the front windows is illegal.....i had 20% and I got pulled over 3 times for it!!!!! And they are cracking down on it especially with the new cell phone law.

 

I've been pulled over twice since putting 15% all around and not once have they mentioned my tint.
