1st Gen Scion tC hub swap to 5x114.3
okay, so lately ive been doing a lot of research. everyone knows the 5x100 bolt pattern sucks balls. and 5x114.3 is a much better wheel selection with better specs and better prices. the only threads i come up on when searching are from over a year ago, and it seems no one ever bothered to actually try and do the swap. all they say is that the Camry and the xB hubs are similar to the tC. my guess is that all you would need to swap are the actual hubs and the rotors. im pretty sure the brake assembly would remain the same.
is there anyone out there who has done the conversion? if so, please confirm this. if not, im willing to put my tC to the test. is there is anyone with an xB in years 2008-2011 or a camry with the 5x114.3 pattern that would be willing to do the swap? we could just switch just to see how everything fits. once its confirmed, we can switch back. we can probably just plan a day where we can do this. only reason why i wanna do this is cuz i dont want to buy the parts off another car just to find out it doesnt fit, and i wont be able to return the parts. at least if i swap with someone on the forums, we can just switch back to normal. hopefully theres someone out there who's down. |
Interesting. I hope you can find someone willing to give it a shot with you. I don't have the tC anymore but I still would look forward to seeing someone attempt it.

If this could be possible omg it would be great but I'm not sure its possible

i don't see why in theory it wouldn't work. If it does, game over. I would be going to 114.3 lol
|
Keep us updated! If it works, make a DIY!
|
Don't they already make adapters? I heard they add alot of offset though.
|
Of course they make adapters, but who wants to run them? They're just an easy alternative.
|
exactly! ^
Think of the awesome wheel possibilities if we could actually run 5x114 hubsssss ughhhhh so many wheeellllllssssssssss |
I thought Ptuning did the swap and offered it but i could be wrong
Actually nvm, I thought the item below came with 5x114 but I do remember Ptuning running a different bolt pattern. http://www.ptuning.com/html/search-r...i&cmbYear=2008 |
They did but only on the front. I think they used xB2 parts.
Edit for interesting post: http://cherrybox.scionlife.com/forum...0&postcount=22 |
getting 5x114.3 hubs and pressing them into our tc knuckles sounds like it would work, but just like in the post that Jon linked us to, most hubs are knuckle specific. then you probably have to source new axles to fit the splines of the 5x114.3 hub.
i did a knuckle and hub swap on my honda crx and it was not as easy as it sounded or looked lol having said this, why couldnt the tc come with 5x114.3 ?! haha |
Interesting, watching. If i know of someone ill send him your way
|
I would get in contact with Ptuning, since they actually executed it, even if it was only the fronts, it's a start. Also the brake rotor dimensions should match our specs, unless you want to shim the calipers whichever way needed to work with a different rotor. Also, don't limit to hubs and rotors from Toyota, might find one from another brand that'll fit, something to think about.

So did anybody come to a conclusion?? will it work? i have 2 different sets of wheels that are 5x114.3 just sitting in the garage that i can do nothing with:/ and i want to do something about this
|
waeh waeh cry me a river. try having a 5x112 bolt pattern and try and find a low spoke 17 inch rim in that for my GTI.. yeah... suck it. I would give anything for a 5x100 for my GTI. My tC already has some tight azss tenzo's. now i just need some for my GTI!! BLAAAAAHHHHH! seriously... there's nothing out there. be happy that your hubs are 5x100. Call PTuning...
|
Well that's nice but could anybody just tell me if its just a rotor swap? Or would adapters just be the best solution

Adapters suck because then you are poking out an inch or so more than you were previously. I'm into tucking, not poking so adapters suck. but yes, like everyone said on here, but do the swap with some 5x114/3 hubs. it is very possible. I've turned some 90's honda's from 4x100 to some 5x100's. that was a joke, but i got it done. if you have the tools then you'll be fine because some fabrication will be put into place, but should be painless yet time consuming for the most part. but seriously, who cares.. 5x100 rocks... 5x112 sucks. so i could care less about this thread, i want awesome 17'' 5x112's!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Yeah i agree having 5x112 would suck but at least you dont have 2 and possibly 3 different sets of wheels in the garage like i do that serve me no purpose....
Do they not make like really slim adaptors? Subaru uses a 5x100 also but has a stud size of 12x1.25 and a hub size of 56.1 Scion tc's have a stud size of 12x1.5 and a hub size of 54.1 is there any way to make this work? |
Things to consider:
Axle spline counts. Brake Rotor size (if different, the caliper will need re-mounted) Brake Rotors to match new pattern Hub mounting holes. Best way to do this? Find a xb2 that's been wrecked. Buy the entire front suspension. (shock/spring/brakes/hubs of course/caliper/axle). Then start swapping things around. If it works, you can share with the rest of the class. |
That sounds like way to much to do just to have wheels fit and im not so sure all that would be necessary plus i dont want my tc to ride/handle like a xb??
