I believe all HIDs are illegal, but I am not 100% sure.

I don't think so, but if you don't put 12000k (purple) they probably won't stop you.

hids are only legal if your car came with them from the factory, but its a small thing, as long as you dont use 12000k the cop wont bother, but just to clear it up if your car didnt have hids from the dealer then its not legal no matter what intensity

True, but to the extent it's enforced depends largely on where you live.

i agree with half of that....yes it is legal IF the car was equiped with HID's from the factory, but if not, then ALL aftermarket HID kits (PNP or retrofitting) are illegal and are for "OFF ROAD" or show use only.

now i might be wrong on this, but anything over 6500K are illegal too.

cops won't bother you if you don't draw attention to you or your car with your driving. unless a cop has nothing better to do then look for illegal mods on cars just to fill his quota...haha

If a cop sees your headlights, he is most likely going in the opposite direction so I doubt he would take the time to turn around and pull you over (in most cases).

cops don't have a quota to complete, it's a myth
the only thing close to that is... most traffic patrol cars must come back to the station with something, since they've been out all day, or else they'll seem like they havn't done anything all day.

yea so hids are illegal other than oem ones but most cops will not pull you over just for the hids. other than color, another thing that can attract attention is if you aren't using projectors, your reflector housing may cause glare, and if you're behind a cop, they might not like that. =)

absolutely correct. the law was passed a few years ago but many still don't know about that specific law yet. The only legal hid is OEM. ANY retrofit, pnp (no matter what the color) is ILLEGAL.

i personally have a 5000K aftermarket hid kit for the evo. the cutoff line isn't perfect, but it is decent enough to not cause major glare

i think there should be a sticky for what is legal and illegal for a street car. i.e. undercar neon lights, windsheild washer lights, hid's etc. (but then again, it'll depend on your location)

I agree. I vote that there should be a sticky on that too

this would be very difficult, it would have to be seperated by state

You can retrofit HID's if it is an option for your car. . .

IE, a 99 Lexus GS300 with halogen lights, utilizing the optional OEM (like the others said) HID's to retrofit. But you have to have the right parts too (reflector, etc) and they have to be OEM.

very true. if a sticky is created, the legal and illegal stuff must apply to all 50 states.
