Hey guys,
I have 2008 tC and it was 85 F in Chicago the other day.
I turned on my A/C and it started with some cold air but after 15 minutes I felt like it was just blowing regular air.

What should I do?

LOL, really its that bad?
Today it was like 65 F and I just wanted to check and I turned on the AC and it was good.

When its cool out the AC is good but once it start getting really hot you will feel the difference.

I recharged the my ac yesterday and it feels like it got worse. I'm in the Sacramento area and its only 88 out. The air is blowing as if it's just the fan on. Looks like I'll have to get a professional to look at it.

I think they are all like that. It was about 88 with 86% humidity here in GA the other day and my AC had a hard time keeping up. I was in the car for about 15 min and it was still not cold (max AC, recirculating air, and I cracked the sunroof to vent hot air for the first couple min). I thought something was wrong so I went to recharge it and it was in the acceptable ranges. Gonna be a long summer.

Recharging the system when it doesn't need it can do more harm than good.

When it blows hot with the a/c switch activated does your clutch engage at the compressor?

So I disconnected the battery to reset the ecu and now I'm NOT having any ac problems. I don't know what happened, but I'm definitely not complaining.

Thanks I was going to by a new xD, now I will not. This was a problem with my 2004 xA, and is still apparently a problem on all Scions. The problem is the heater box flap cannot insulate the heater from the A/C system sufficiently so the evaporator can work at maximum efficiency.

I placed thermocouples throughout the car. With an outside temperature of 75F and in the shade, and the A/C off the inside temperature would eventually climb to 116F. This can kill a baby if the car was left running with just the fan on and no A/C. Toyota sent a tech team and a paralegal to my dealer and they confirmed my findings. They offered to buy the car back. They however refused to admit the design was defective or inadequate because it met it's design specifications? This is Japanese logic at it's finest. However I liked the car and had spent some money customizing it, so I bought a heater hot water shutoff valve for $75 for an older Toyota, and installed it. I took it out on a cool evening and waited for the OFF A/C to blow hot air. I flipped the hot water valve to the off position and within minutes the car was cooling OK, but not like my Honda Civic which I still had. An A/C shop explained that Honda's A/C "spits out ice cubes relative to most other cars."

Ive bought my 06 tC new (original owner), i have about 140kmi, my a/c works.... on super hot days like 90+ (Louisiana) it takes a little longer to cool off, but my a/s has always worked fine... Im not sure what car can cool a car off in 30 seconds in that kind of heat...

Note: The complaint is not that the A/C does not work when the coolant is cold. it is that the A/C severely degrades when the coolant is hot. Also Some people are happy with only a slight difference in temperature. In California MB technicians tricked their arrogant A/C engineers to drive to Death Valley, and locked the doors so they could not be opened from the inside. That is why MB switched to the GM Swash plate compressor.

The A/C on my tC right now, with days over 100 degrees, is at 45-50 degrees

I had the same issue with my Volvo, and i found some info on the volvo forum. It involves the AC compressor clutch and the magnetized friction plates that pull together to run the ac. As the metal parts wear down the magnetization is not strong enough to pull the together. So you fix this by either replacing a shim in the plate or use a couple locking zip ties to close the gap, which is how i did it
