Default Another key problem..

Well to start off my key problem, I took my car to get tinted and all went well, tint looked good etc.

To make a long story short, my purty key broke. So now i'm just using the fob part on my keyring and using the valet key to start the car rather than the original. The fob is probably 2 or 3 inches from the ignition.

I know the valet key is supposed to not allow you to roll down the windows or sunroof, but what else does it limit? Car seems to run fine... went 70 with the valet key in so I imagine theres no speed limiter or nothing

Am I good with using the valet key as long as the fob is still on my keyring?

Btw I realize it's pretty ghetto but I plan on getting a Zenesis and just using the valet key w/ the Zenesis fob. Just got other stuff to buy ATM.

The valet key can't open the glovebox lock, IIRC.

Maybe it's a good time to make a switchblade key? https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=222632

You don't need the key fob at all with the valet key. To unlock the car just use the valet key in the door. The only thing the valet key cannot do is open the glove box. Other than that it is like a normal key.

x2.

One of my 05 keys broke (plastic housing cracked). It would let me start it with just the metal, but it wouldn't idle, it just died. I had to glue the key and fob pieces back together, and for the ride home (from Mesa, AZ to Avondale, AZ...45 mins), I had to hold the fob part to the key...As long as the key made contact inside the fob, it was fine.

I like the switchblade key, but eh. I like the simple valet key and a zenesis fob to replace my hacked fob.

Forgot to mention, I am using my 2nd 06 key. I got my car used and one of the keys was way beat (all the plastic wore off, so the buttons were gone) so I used the 2ndary key, which was the one that got broken.

Good to know the valet key has no real restrictions... I still like the remote unlock/lock feature so thats why I keep the fob part on my keyring.

I tried using just the metal part of the key at Dannys where it broke, and it wouldn't start, but if I held the fob near the key like it normally would be it would start fine. Then I could put the fob in the cup holder and drive like nothing was wrong. Weird

Thanks for the help and input though everyone. Now I got to find someone who can install the zenesis. I know 4 alarm techs and they all go "UHH, how am I supposed to install the taptap sensor?" So thats a no-go. And paying more for install than the item itself isn't my style.
