Question Antifreeze sprays out of radiator cap damaging engine.

Has anyone had a problem with antifreeze spraying out of radiator cap during normal operation? Have a 2007 Scion tc with 15,079 miles. After driving 130 miles on Interstate stopped for gas, turned off car didn't notice any problems. Started back up, no problem, drove another 45-50 miles on Interstate, saw liquid on passenger's side window and some steam under hood and immediately pulled off Interstate on berm. At that exact point the "check engine" light came on. Opened hood, antifreeze sprayed over engine from radiator cap, reservoir full to "normal level". Towed to Toyota dealer. Bottom line.....major damage to engine. Having difficulty with Toyota to correct under Warranty (3 years - 36,000 miles) which this vehicle qualifies. They say cap is fine and no defect. Has anyone experience similiar problem? Thanks for you help and suggestions.

the only reasons coolant would be spraying out of the radiator car would be because of a defect or too much pressure in the system (considering the cap is the factory one). you said after driving the reservoir was at full? or was it at the maximum line?

It's likely the other way around. Something wrong with the engine caused it to overheat and then spray the antifreeze all over.

how is it your problem that their (toyota) product failed you? It IS their problem, not yours. I think its not cool that the cap failed, but something did causing major damage regardless of what they say failed. Fact is, that's why you have warranty, yes it is their problem. If they don't want to honor their warranty, time for a legal rep to take over. I say it all the time, but seriously, a lot of dealers refuse to honor the warranty. I dont say to get an attorney everytime you have warranty, just in case Scion doesn't help you out. Scion corporate I mean. I would definitely call Scion and tell them what happened, you were driving and the check engine light came on, you pulled over when you saw smoke. None of what you did caused this!

I had a situation where antifreeze shot all over my engine bay as well, turns out my lower radiator hose had a hole in it, I thought it was from the cap too. Try checking the hoses if that helps any.
