I know there was a thread on removing the middle seat belt which might help. Try searching too. Oh yeah, I think you posted in the wrong forum.

There is also a huge post on how to completely strip the tC, complete with pictures. I'm pretty sure he took out the back seats, but I could be wrong. I'll try looking for it...

if i may ask why would you want to remove the rear seats just to put them back in. If I were u take the rear seats out permantly along with the spar tire (if you want to) permantly you lose some weight and less weight is good.

it doesnt' take long at all. just take a look at that post about stripping the entire tc, take a phillip, and flathead, and a socket set and you'll have everything out in 30 min i did it last week

my friend did it in his civic in less then 15 mins and that was his first try. but it might be different in a tC
But you know what, it was so light that it was just pointless. The spare would deffinatly weigh more then the seats.

Why would you want to strip down the tC anyways? Seems a bit pointless to me...

(It would also change the weight balance on an already front-heavy vehicle. If one is only going to 'straight line' their vehicle, OK, but for something that requires handling, even daily driving, I'd question it...)

its not going to do something too noticable in the handling dept. (epsically for street use, you will only really notice if your auto Xing and you know how to drive a vehicle to its max) but anyway, be prepared for the rear end to lift almost a inch when you take out your back seats and spare too. and it is noticeable. when i stripped my type-r, i had to get 3" dopr springs just so it looked good. (but i took out the front and rear bumper support as well) thats another way to lighten the TC, but it will make it worse in case of a front or rear collision. and insurance might not cover damage that wouldnt have occured if they werent removed. me personaly i have them in for now, but i will be taking them out when i can get lowering springs that will drop me more than i am now. and like i said ITS NOT ENTIRELY SAFE TO DO THIS but i accept the danger. after all i spent 2 tours in iraq lol

The bottom of the seat is quite lite so no real gain.

The top sections are actually quite heavy, taking them out will reduce the weight a fair amount, just folding them flat will help in the handling department and possibly more than removing them. I have autocrossed both ways and did not see a significant difference.

For drag racing go ahead and remove them, for all else not really much to gain unless you are doing many other things as well then it all adds up.

One more thing, the more you remove and replace things the more chances of slipping and damaging your car or the seats themselves, the safest place to store them is in the car.

(we are all about lowering the weight of the car yet have it comfortable to drive, we are rebuilding the backs of the seats to lower the weight of them;)

We have had our car stripped down pretty bare several times, including all factory sound deadening out, roof off, etc, just never weighed it. Once we get it the rest of the way built up, batter to the rear, boosted, more suspension mods(major fabrication) we will corner and CG weight it so we can finialize the settings on ride height, camber angles(will adjust for differnent types of racing), etc....

We have removed alot of excess little parts like brackets, studs not being used, wire harness connectors cut out and hard wired, etc.

We are guestimating around 200 lbs lighter as it sits right now but will be adding some back in critical areas, once we finish this up we will weigh it and let it be known, sometime in the spring.

You may want to ask ZPI, I believe one of their cars is stripped down pretty well.

I dont see the point in stripping the car by removing things in the rear. The car is already front heavy and this just makes it worse. Unless you are going to drag race it probably would improve things. Take out all the weight in the front if you want it to handle better. Sound deading weighs a lot.

Weight it weight up to a point removing all you can is important but balancing the car out is still critical. Moving the battery to the rear can help a tremendous amount in that regard since it is such a foward heavy item on the wrong side of the car as well, should be on the passenger side and in back!

Quite a few things can be done to help with weight transfer to improve handling even with rear weight removed, if you are game for the effort that will take;)

We may end up being faster with our audio system install in the rear once done for autocross and possibly track days, will find out next spring
