Default Peeling wheels?

I found an '09 tC at one of the dealerships I work at for my daughter. The car is in mint condition and has 43k on it. The only problem with the car, is that the wheels are peeling. They seem to be chrome, but underneath the chrome, is a shiny gunmetal gray color. Is that the original color of the wheels, or did someone make a poor attempt at chroming them? Also, there is an iPod connector in the center console that is different from a standard iPod connection. I think they call it the iPod interface connection and was wondering if I bought the cable, will it charge an iPhone S?

The gunmetal color is the original color. I'm assuming the cable would charge an iPhone. I've yet to see mine not charge regardless of what it's plugged in to, be it a computer or car.

So someone definitely tried to chrome them? I wonder if I can somehow get the chrome off??

Acid bath or maybe bead/sand blasting? I think that will take the paint with it though.

To my knowledge the iPod Interface Cable doesn't actually charge the iPhone, just plays the music off of it. Some different voltage or something.

The iPod cable does charge the original iPhone that I had, but no luck with the iPhone 4. I went and bought an adapter which now allows it to charge, the brand is Scoche(spell check?). It'll play music through the iPod function regardless which iPhone is plugged in. You can try to turn the key to the on position and plug the phone to see if it'll charge, if it doesn't it'll pop up with a message saying something like "This device is not compatible etc. etc."

EDIT:
This is the adapter I bought which allows the phone to charge:

If you get the charger adapter I linked, you can charge and play without running cables all over the car. I have noticed some interference during ipod/video play with it but I have the bass turned up and volume up to drown it out. You'll def hear it when a track is paused or in between track changes.

According to the product description, it will charge an iPod.

Product Description

You don't have to Fumble around with your ipod while you drive. This cable gives you the convenience of control and charging of your iPod from your Factory Radio. This one simple cable males the connection to the iPod input found in or on top of the center console. This will allow for a clean installation and eliminates the bulky adapter box found with many universal iPod adapters. This cable is 12" long and features a 30-pin iPod male plug on one end and a Scion oem 16 pin on the other.

^I was going to look for the description for that too. It should do iPods no problem, def the early release ones, now any newer generations IDK. That's where the adapter comes in handy.
