bought new TC, what to do with old car?
 

I crashed my old car (front bumper, radiator, etc messed up)
I just bought a new TC

now what do I do with my old recked car? Its leaking antifreeze and I need it out of my driveway. I would like to get at least SOME money for it because it does start and drive. Do any local people (gilbert, AZ) know of a place I can either take it to, or they can come pick it up and I can get rid of this car.

I was thinking of your local junk yard. I don't know how much they'll give you... but I know that there is one near me that you can call and they will come and pick it up if necessary. But you might get a couple more $$ if you drop it off.

Donate it to a charity or trade school and get the tax write-off. You won't get much but it's less hassle and usually they'll even tow it for free.

I would call around to different junk yards and just take the best price. Taking it there will get you more money for sure.

^^ If you want them to. The one near me will do either one. But they would likely take out the towing fee from your payment if they come get it.

I say donate it... Its a worthy cause they will take it away for and when they come to your house they'll appraise it on the spot.. You could get like $500. minimum.

They changed the tax laws for donating cars. You can only write off what the people you donate it to sell it for, not the book value. IRS cracked down after people wrote 10 grand off their taxes for a totalled 500$ POS.

You better off selling it yourself and getting the cash then writing a couple bucks off on your taxes.

My old car was rear ended and totaled - everything from the rear axle up was in mint conditon, including the interior and the engine. It was still driveable even. I would have parted it out myself if I had the time, motavation and a place to keep it. I called every junkyard between NYC and Boston, eventually I got 400$ for it. The next highest offer was 50$. Junkyard will make that back selling the headlights.

Bottom line, don't expect much.

Plus I doubt most people here itemized their Income tax so the 500 receipt wont do ya any good. I sold my 89 corolla 4 years ago that was rear ended (driveable) for $1000 :P.
