Default burning oil like crazy.. why?

I have an 07 tc ... it runs great except it burns oil like crazy.. I go through about 3-4 quarts in a matter of 1000 - 1500 miles. A compression test and a leak down test were both done by 2 different shops.. and the car passed with flying colors. What could be causing this? And how can I fix it!!?? I'm sick of putting oil in all the time!

This is a very common problem with TCs except yours is really excessive. I also have an 07 and go through about .5 quarts every 800-1000 miles depending on how I drive. The root of the problem is poorly designed piston rings. Toyota knows of the problem, but refuses to do anything about it. They do have in the manual that the car may burn up to 1.5 quarts every 700 miles I believe (which is to cover their butts). Anything near that consumption or even mine is ridiculous. They did issue a TSB about cars that consume oil like yours, but I would assume you're out of warranty and it would be a very expensive fix.

The fix: Add oil when it's low.

This. Any other fix will cost significantly more. You extended oil change intervals since you're cycling in fresh oil LOL.

Edit: Is your car leaking oil?

@tak16... thank you! And for ttccc and hkspeex Although those are just wonderful ideas .. unlike a man I would prefer to fix the problem rather than avoid it and take the easy route and continuously add oil. Thanks.

I have a new engine in my tC and I still have to add a quart of oil every couple thousand miles. It's the nature of the beast.

wow...no, that is not the nature of the beast. I didn't go through that much oil even when my tC was turbo charged with a blown head gasket! It is going somewhere.

I was exaggerating. I've had the the new engine in for around 5000 miles. I've had to put in one quart of oil since then. It's a common problem. Just because you might be the exception doesn't mean this sort of thing doesnt happen to others.

Check engine light? does it smell? smoke?

if it isn't getting burned up it's leaking.

My 07 burns about a quart every 1000 miles. No leaks and no smoke out the tailpipe

I've accepted that its normal for these cars. I work at a shop so oil is free

No problem! Once again though, yours is very excessive. It'll likely be 3000+ at a dealer to fix it. It'd be cheaper to find a used motor out of a wrecked tC and find a reputable shop to replace it. Also check to see if it is indeed leak free.

X2 on checking for leaks. I thought my car was burning a quart every 2500, but it seemed fishy to me that the bottom of the oil pan below the plug was always slightly wet with oil. I put a thin line of blue RTV sealant on both sides of the washer and snugged it up, after an hour I tightened it the rest of the way and have been leak free ever since. I have to repeat the RTV sealant application about every 10 to 15k miles. Hope this helps

My first motor ate oil like crazy. About the same as yours. This new motor doesn't seem to have the problem, even after 10k miles boosted. I bet your oil scraping rings are poop but the compression rings are fine. My O2 sensor and cat were bad when the motor was replaced. It never smoked because the cats caught it all. If you end up needing a new O2 sensor, please let me know. I have a front sensor with 2k miles on it that was replaced when I got my turbo kit. Those suckers are expensive and its just sitting around.
