Clutch Covered Under Warranty?
 

My clutch is slipping at 38k miles... I dont drive the car all that hard at all so im a bit confused by this. I was under the impression that the clutch is covered under the 5 years 60k mile warranty on the drivetrain. Toyota called me today and told me that it would not be covered since the clutch is considered a "wear and tear" item. Is there anything I can do besides payin them $1400 for a new clutch?

Ooh sorry to hear about that. The clutch is in fact a wear and tear item, not covered by the warranty if it is worn out. If there is a manufacturer's defect with the clutch, it is covered by the basic 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, not by the powertrain warranty.

1400 is ridiculous, go somewhere else and get a better clutch with cheaper install labor.. and yes it not covered since its a wear and tear part as mentioned. Clutch slipping at 38K without driving hard? something might be wrong with your routine driving.. clutch riding a lot or too much traffic?

You can get a good aftermarket clutch for 250-300 and have a transmission shop install it for 200-300 bucks

even for a daily driver you can get a stage one or 2 clutch which would be better than stock

Yeah just dont go w/ a stage 4. Trust me. Or a hella light flywheel

LOL, i agree, get an aftermarket one and have a tranny shop do it :)

like everyone said, get an after market one and do it outside the dealership.

1400, wow. Its amazing how much dealerships charge for pitty bs. My dad comes up to me and says. Does 300 for a remote start and another 1,200 installation sound reasonable? I just stared right back and said "you're kidding right? 1,500 just for your car to start up?" Its ridiculous. I showed him the zenesis and its price tag and he fell in love :rofl:

But yea. Go outside the dealership.

damn dealership! what you guys think about 1400? lol they charge so much i feel bad for customers that doesnt know where else to go but them..

uhh.. i dunno what BS dealership you went to.. but last i checked.. it didn't cost $1400 for a normal dealership to install a clutch.

all dealerships aren't always stealerships folks... but do shop around at least first.

hmm maybe stock clutch is around 500-600 and install is 800-900 just my guess but i could imagine why that much

yeah.. does sound stupidly high... i can run the number when i got the chance..

but typically stock parts do cost more for some stupid reason..
(i.e. stock brake pads are more expensive than even the TRD ones that perform better.. :doh:)

:idea: While ur @ it, u might as well upgrade to an ACT clutch, Fidanza flywheel, and Quaife/TRD LSD @ the same time!!! :clap:

lol.. i think he just needs a new clutch, not a performance car....

I know someone that burned up the clutch in his new tC in less than 5,000 miles, but this kid didn't know much better.

He drove with his foot on the clutch all the time, apparently he didn't know what the dead pedal was for. This was obviously his first stick shift.

He also ran a power cable in front of the clutch pedal under the dash for an amp. The cable may have caused the clutch to prematurely slip wearing it out faster.

I'm not implying anything about your car or your driving, just passing along other possibliities why clutches could fail prematurely.

Yea im definetly not letting the dealer do the work. In fact I laughed at the quote and said no thanks. I will either do it myself or bring it to a tranny shop like you guys suggested. I let my buddy drive my car one night and ever since then its been slipping like crazy. Oh well live and learn I guess.

I have a clutch that has LESS than 6,000 miles on it (I can prove it, you can see my repair order for the TRD lsd and TRD clutch) anyways, ill let it go pretty cheap if your interested.

Look into the ACT clutch and have alocal shop do the install.......they may even do better work........and not rape you like that........$1400..ouch..... :tap:

Clutch is what........3 hours removal and install.......maybe 4 hours tops if you drink beer and yack a lot........ :rofl:
