Compression & Leak Down Test Results: Rebuild Engine or buy a new one?
Hi I have a 2006 Scion Tc RS 2.0 with 146000 miles, my compression test results below, leak down test confirmed that my 2nd cylinder piston rings are worn and am getting large amounts of blow-by. 3rd cylinder requires ignition coil.
1: 140 psi 2: 50 psi 3: 125 psi 4: 140 psi I want to know if i should have my engine rebuilt or have a new engine installed. Modifications that are currently on the vehicle: Greddy Turbo Kit, HKS BOV, Tial Waste Gate, RS Type Strut Bar, Vibrant Vacuum System, AEM Fuel Management, RS Type front Mount Intercooler, Moghen Header & Down Pipe, HIS Exhaust & Muffler, Halo HID Head Lights, Rota Rims with Pirelli tires, Pillar and Gauges, Pioneer indash, 12" Sub & Amp output, Tinted Windows 20%. ANY TIPS or ADVICE would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!:icon_headphones: Thank you! |
Rebuild the engine and put in a stronger bottom end that will allow higher boost levels without the worry of damage..

Would a rebuild be the better option even with high miles? I know for a fact it's going to be cheaper.
|
Rebuild would be better for a few reasons:
-Don't need to buy a new core -A rebuild with better pistons and rods will be far more reliable than a new oem engine under boost -You should be replacing all the worn parts/surfaces, so the mileage doesn't really matter. To save a little money, it may be easier to by a low mileage cylinder head (if you find one) rather than rebuilding a head with oem quality parts. |
I have a 2009 Scion Tc and I need an engine. Can someone recommend a good source I could buy used JDM or rebuilt engine from ?
|
Looks like engine is different for 2005-2006 model and it changes in 2007, is that true ?
|
I am tired of looking for it as prices are very steep. I want to make sure what I am buying is worth it :)
|
I think I would settle with a rebuilt engine.

I am in Houston and I prefer to buy locally but all I see is junk yards here.

Bingo...I found Engine World Inc in Houston. They offer fully rebuilt 2AZ engine for my Scion Tc. I visited their location and saw previously built engines. I'm impressed. This is their website : Used Japanese Engines & Transmissions
