consumer reports tc review
I think that review is right on the money.
Like someone else said, a WRX (CR's benchmark in the under 30k "sporty" class) is way more "sporty" than a tC and anyone who says other wise has never driven a WRX or is delusional. The TC is a fun car to drive and I enjoy driving it, but it's not a WRX.
Awful body integrity means everybody is complaining about the rattles - everyone on here knows that's one of, if not the biggest complaint about the TC.

For what it's worth, on the not sporty handling comment. Last night I had to DD after a family dinner. Comparing the tC to my dads E39 M5, I like the tC in the turns much better. Both cars are on snowtires mine WS-50s his LM-22's. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges but how can they say that it is not sporty? What is their idea of a sports car (a corvette? ROFL)? I also don't get how they say its the worst vehicle in the Scion line up when the resale value is through the roof. Just had to vent on a work break. meh! I feel better.
EDIT: My tC is stock.

I can understand why they say its the worst in the scion lineup, its the most expensive, and offers the least amount of versatility and room compared to the other scions.
What they are basing their reports on is a relative comparison to other cars. We are making comparisons in price to other cars.

Well, that's your opinion... but... wow.
I want to echo what TheQuietThings said. He hit the nail on the head.

gas_meet_foot: The tC's steering is a lot lighter and I personally feel more connected than in the M5. I don't get to drive his car that often but last night I got a chance to compare the 2 back to back. Keep in mind how heavy the M5 is, but these consumer reports probably don't classify it as a sports car anyway. More of a sport-luxury car, I guess.
I don't think the tC has much of a body roll problem although I can't get a good feel for it since my tires are the current limiting factor. I'll probably change my mind once the summer tires go back on.
The power isn't that big of a problem for the car. Unless you live your life on a straight road where all you care about is going fast in a straight line.
wubaru: uhh what?
I stated it was comparing apple to oranges! Or uh for driving this thread off topic? I didn't read most of the other posts. Now that I went back and reread I agree with the tC being a nice, sporty car for under $17k. Since I mostly use the tC, in winter and when I need to carry people or other stuff I dont have a sense of sporty cars. I like 2 wheels better. WAIT! It just came to me, lets blame it on the RE92's! The car they reviewed probably had stock tires, maybe it was the Yokos, maybe not but we'll blame it on them anyways!

i agree with what someone stated earlier, consumber report isn't a import tuner mag. it rates the car for the average driver who want some reliable information on a product they are interested in...

Seriously.
It's logical. The tC is worse than the xB and xA in terms of what CR values. The other two cars get excellent or above average satisfaction, as does the tC, but the tC's reliability suffers from its relative newness while the other two have been out for almost a decade already in Japan. It would only make sense the x cars are more reliable and, out of three cars, that would, be default, make the tC the worse of them.

They did have a list of most and least reliable of each brand. The tC was the least reliable Scion because it was "much worse than average" in body hardware/integrity. This is because of rattles and sunroof problems. All other areas were excellent reliability.
Roy
P.S.: I read that the next generation of the Lexus ES3xx, based on the new Camry, will have an optional all glass roof. I wonder how much extra it will cost.

I hope this means they have worked the bugs out, because Lexus owners aren't going to tolerate the rattles and creaks the TC has.
Maybe this will mean they can finally fix my roof.
