i have seen people over at the engine and power (laugh) section of the xB they remove the snorkle and it sounds beetter and get better ags mileage?

wtf? japan scientists perfect an engine and they think just throw away some of it and we can do better? lol why not strap some pvc piping from the intake out the hood and make a scoop too while were at it for RAM AIR

Yeah, you're right. That's why CAIs and SRIs are crap, if they produced any more power the engineers would've put them in, right?

Doh!

Engines from the factory appeal to the lower common denominator. What 'sounds better' for some may sound horrendous and loud for others. From the factory, they're not tuning the xB for performance (that's an oxymoron).

An engine is far from perfect from the factory. Which is why CAI's DO work. Maybe not as much on the Xb but they do work. The reason manufacturers restrict the engine is for many reasons - one being emisions. Also it costs more for Alluminum piping then it would ABS plastic, might not be much comparatively but mulitply that by hundreds of thousands and you save hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions.

All I hear is problems about people that have done it. SRIs and CAIs work though.

CAI's do nearly jack squat for this car, period. They make it sound different and move a LITTLE of the power around the band. And aluminum piping heat soaks about a million times worse than abs.. which is why they use abs to begin with. A member of ystc (and here) built his own CAI to actually fight those effects. Most CAIs are cheap pipe with a lot of marketing and a bunch of BS (like most "tuner" bolt ons). And yes, I have driven the tC for months with a CAI (it was free and looked nice ) and then removed it... no percievable change other than sound (which fools some peoples butt dyno apparently). It is pretty much common knowledge that they have little overall effect on our car.

Removing the snorkel just makes the car pull in hot engine air.. worse than stock performance wise. I am assuming you are talking about the piece between the airbox and the fender well.

I've removed that piece. It has no performance difference one way or another. The intake 'sounds' a BIT louder only when listening carefully well into the power band.

Theoretically, hotter air SHOULD mean better mpg. However the 4 inches or whatever that is being removed is quite irrelevant. People LIKE to think that the throttle response is slightly better because the air has less to travel, but I think that is just wishful thinking and all in one's mind.

Mine is removed, I didn't think it did anything for me once I had my sri installed. What exactly would it be doing for me if i left it in?

Default Hey man.

Just break the inside of the box where there lies the inner filter. Just break that white filter off on the inside of the stock airbox. Then remove the resonator on the piping. Put a cap in it and clamp it. It will work and wont cost you a dime. But buy a K&N filter.
