Engine Bucking 2005 TC
 

I own a 2005 TC with a manual transmission. Occasionally after I start it up the engine bucks and jerks while driving. It goes away after about 1 minute. Even when I shift into 3rd and 4th gear it is still doing it. It only appears to go away after the engine is warm. I took it to autozone to see if threw any errors and it did not. It has been doing it more frequently and the check engine light comes on. I have done some google searching and found the same complaint but no responses to the issue. Has anyone had this issue?

Let your car warm up.

Even after It has been sitting for a while it will still do it. It is a sign of a problem.

The manual transmission toyota scion tc has a violent cold start jerking and bucking at a slow speed when it is started until the engine is warm. The dealership has tried to replace sensors and it continues to do the same thing. Toyota claims it is operating as designed as there are no computer "fault codes" displayed. Others have driven it and claimed that it is not normal, but toyota refuses to do anything about it - "it is operating as designed." many dealers have looked at it and have not been able to fix it, although they agree that the manual transmission vehicle is not as popular as the automatic and few people pursue the problem. Autoweek magazine wrote about the problem in the september 19, 2005 issue and the official response from scion was that there was no problem with the vehicle although it would buck and jerk for them as well.

i have the same problem but i think it is just the fact its a manual car and the motor is moving all over the place my solution was getting motor mounts,now it's as stiff as a board

Was it intense bucking? It isn't something small that would go unnoticed. It is severe. Any idea of what would trip the check engine light?

i feel it sometimes but thats when my engine is cold. Another thing you might want to look into for you CEL is check your brake fluid. The CEL tends to come on like that when you have low brake fluid like how mine did when i first got my tc. Filled her up to the line and no CEL problems ever since.

I've got an '05 tC. The same thing DOES happen when driving it cold but I only do that when I'm late or in a rush. Otherwise I never roll out until the engine revs drop below 1K. Let the car warm up for a couple of minutes. I have no clue why you throw a CEL though.

my car is an 07 manual tc and it also does it

mine does it also a little bit, if i shift below 3k on a cold start after a minute of warming up..if i shift at 3k then im usually fine,but for the most part i give it at least 10 mins to warm up,if i dont getting into reverse is a pita

I have the same bucking issue, shakes my seats too...and I have had it for many years. It goes away once its warmed up. Thank god for a remote starter in the winter because these northeast -5° temperatures kill the tC. Either way, my car has dealt with it for many years and its still going strong without any issues. I've heard this is a very common issue and stronger motor mounts can help.
